Audience: General/trade. dalton, 1935-1975, was a writer, poet who also was one of the early member of one of the revolutionary groups that made up the f.m.l.n., the revolutionary group that in 1991 was able to sign a concord with the government that disbanded the government army and the rebel forces and sat up a democratic government. dalton died well short of that because of misunderstanding and mistakes among the revolutionaries. what he did leave behind was strong, clear and vivid poetry and intelligent essays on the issues of the day. pages 9 though 28 is the essay 'poetry & militancy in latin america' by roque dalton. pages 31 though 42 his dalton's poem 'old shit'. pages 45 though 53 is the 'afterword' by james scully on dalton's earlier essay.
