Library Journal
The latest addition to Gale's comprehensive series of literary criticism, Poetry Criticism ( PC ), joins Contemporary Literary Criticism ( CLC ; 61 vols.), Twentieth- Century Literary Criticism ( TCLC ; 38 vols.), and over 20 other titles. Volume 1 of PC (to be published semiannually) presents 13 poets from all eras: Auden, Baudelaire, Dickinson, Donne, Ferlinghetti, Frost, Hughes, Keats, Masters, Paz, Plath, Poe, and Edwin Arlington Robinson. Authors to be featured in Volumes 2 and 3 include Anna Akhmatova and Claude McKay, and some 230 additional authors are scheduled to appear in future volumes. Authors from Caedmon to Jupitor Hammond are mentioned, including Emily Bronte and Thoreau. Carolyn M. Rodgers and Sherley Anne Williams are listed but A.R. Ammons, Amy Clampitt, Michael Harper, Sharon Olds, Adrienne Rich, and Mark Strand are absent. PC provides a wide-ranging historical overview of poetry criticism. CLC and the 130 volumes of Contemporary Authors should be used for recent and living poets. Annotated bibliographies and three cumulative indexes are included.-- Frank Allen, Schenectady Cty. Community Coll., N.Y.
