Based on a decade of on-island research and extensive literature review, the book has been produced by a group of Pohnpeian and international experts, specialists in ethnomedicine, clinical care, public health, biology, conservation and Pacific Island culture.

Meet the Author

Roberta Lee, M.D. is Vice Chair of the Department of Integrative Medicine, Director of Continuing Medical Education, and Co-Director of the Felloship in Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel's Continuum Center for Health and Healing at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Lee attended George Washington University Medical School. Following the completion of her residency in Internal Medicine, she served as a U.S. Public Health Service physician for five years.

Nieve Shere holds both a Masters of Science in Ethnobotany and in Acupuncture. She maintains a private Acupuncture practice in Manhattan.

Michael J. Balick, Ph.D. is Vice President for Botanical Science, Philecology Curator and Director of The New York Botanical Garden Institute of Economic Botany in the Bronx. An ethnobotanist, he studies the relationships between plants, people and culture, in both tropical and temperate environments.
