Lei, però, non si è mai sentita a suo agio con i coetanei e ogni lunedì non vede l'ora di fuggire dall'università per raggiungere il centro commerciale più vicino. Lì non è costretta a fingere di essere cordiale-interessata-griffata-colta con una punta di trasgressione, può essere se stessa. Annie ha due figli che adora, un marito che ama da impazzire e una casa che, dopo la crisi, non può più permettersi. Impossibile chiedere aiuto a quell'arpia di sua sorella che non fa altro che sbandierare il conto in banca del marito, medico di successo, e criticare le sue scelte. Forse la soluzione per riuscire a salvare la casa esiste, ma non è detto che tutti in famiglia siano d'accordo. Bettina e India, rispettivamente 20 e 43 anni (anche se ne dichiara 38), sono figliastra e matrigna e non possono stare a meno di cento metri di distanza senza punzecchiarsi e litigare. Bettina teme che quella donna troppo giovane possa approfittarsi del padre per arrivare al suo portafoglio e lasciarlo con il cuore in pezzi. Jennifer Weiner (b. 1970) is a bestselling novelist, television producer, and former journalist. She achieved recognition with her first book Good in Bed, a novel shaped by her own early experiences trying to balance love and work. She followed it up with In Her Shoes, which was later turned into a movie of the same name. To date she has written over a dozen books, many of which have become bestsellers. She has also been an outspoken critic of the pejorative label "chick lit."
