Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize just how much they belong together.

Colleen Hoover entranced readers everywhere with her bestselling novel Slammed, the book that introduced Layken and Will, a young couple whose love overcame devastating hardships to emerge stronger and more resilient than before. Now, as Layken and Will’s emotion-packed story continues, a stunning and unforeseen revelation about Will’s past leaves them questioning everything that they thought they knew about each other. With the foundation of their relationship at risk, they must decide whether they are willing to fight for a future together, or to retreat back into solitude and heartache.

How far does Will have to go to prove to Layken his love for her will last forever? It will require something truly extraordinary to keep this couple together, and the decisions they make and the answers they find will change not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.

“Colleen Hoover's second novel is just as brilliant and entertaining as Slammed. Point of Retreat is absolute poetry.” —Jamie McGuire, author of Beautiful Disaster

This book will take you on a ride of self-exploration, growth, and introspection. Some help from their friends, and even some extra special help from those that are no longer with them (just wait – this was an amazing and heartwarming little twist that stole my heart and yes. Almost made me cry.) Oh, and in the spirit of “Slammed”, the slam-poetry still plays a big part in this installment, and there is one that simply… turned me to mush. *sigh*

    I Also Recommend:

    BUTTERFLYING BRILLIANT!

Point of Retreat is equally intense and just as powerful as its predecessor Slammed. This is the only book I've ever read that had me bawling and laughing out loud at the same time. Like the first book in this sequel, Slammed, Point of Retreat had me bawling my eye's out and took me on an intense emotional journey about family, friendship, life and love. This book seriously needs to come with a disclaimer warning readers to be ready to cry a lot! (It's really hard to get through a book when your tears are flooding your eye's chapter after chapter). The fact that Point of Retreat is well written and because it made such an impact on me, I would give it well over 5 stars.

Point of Retreat is the continuing story of Wil and Layken's rom

Point of Retreat is the continuing story of Wil and Layken's romance that began in Slammed. As the book opens, Layken's Mom has passed away 3 months ago. She and Wil have fallen into a rhythm of college classes, caring for their little brothers, and seeing each other. As the new semester begins a person from Wil's past will stir up trouble for him and Lake. Again, I feel these books are so good that I don't want to give too much of the plot away because that is one of the best parts of this book was letting it unfold to me. Lake begins to question whether Wil loves her because of their similar circumstances or if he really loves her for herself. Life continues to throw curves their way that they must navigate.
I loved this book as much as the first and it was so fun to have this one told from Wil's POV. By the end of the two books I felt satisfied and even closer to the characters. I would recommend this series to everyone that loves romance. The love story is touching and real. Both Slammed and Point of Retreat will be on my keeper shelf for re-reading!

    Un'butterflying'ly believable story!

The best 'butterflying' books I've ever read. I read both books in 1 day, over 1800 pages. Seriously. I could not put them down. The story, characters, and dialogue is brilliant and moving. I was laughing one minute, then crying the next. Never in a million years, did I think that I'd ever be so enthralled with a story about slam poetry and the resilience of family. I want to live on Will and Lake's street. I want to be a member of their hodgepodge family. I hope Mrs. Hoover decides to write more about this family. Eddie and Gavin? Caulder, Kel,and Kierstin? I'd love to hear about the next phase of their lives.

    Good,not slammed good

This was good, but not as good as Slammed. Not thrilled with the ending, too abrupt after waiting so long to see what happens. This one is told from the guys' point of view, I think I prefer Lake telling the story.

    Great story!

I read both books in one day. I laughed and cried. This story was about being a family and I loved how they really understood that.

    So Good Again!

Just as good as book 1. I like that it was from his point of view instead of hers. It was a nice twist.

As good as I hoped it would be

I read it in a few hours and much like the first, I cried I laughed and got angry with the characters. Very predictable but a good read, it was like watching a movie in my head. Loved all the chatacters! And as another reviewer wrote, I would gladly buy a third if the author decided to write it.

    Wowwed again!

Whew! I have just finished reading "Point of Retreat" and can't quit crying even though it has avery happy ending! The emotions that Will expresses are so raw and real. I did not think this follow up to "Slammed" could be as good or better. It was. I can't recommend these books enough. I dont know how an author can make you laugh and cry at the same time but she has done it twice. Wow a great book and a MUST READ!

Warning: this book is for teens

I truly hope allthe great reviews were written by young teens! Im sorry but i dont get the great reviews unless you are a pre-teen or teenager! I had no idea this book was meant for that age group because i cant imagine a mature adult who has experienced friendships, love, loss, and life to buy into this story! I found the characters to be RIDICULOUSLY UNBELIEVABLE. The dialogue was so silly and the whole love story was embarrassingly silly!! Im sorry but i laughed through most of it because it was just delusional! Dont waste your time reading unless youre 13 years old!

    Sweet book

I think both this book and the one before it, "Slammed," are sweet simple books. There was only one part that surprized me, but the rest was pretty cliche and predictable. I enjoyed reading them both but nothing to go crazy about.

Great ending to a troubled love affair

I read both books in this series, Slammed and Point of Retreat in less than 24 hours. Over 1800 "Nook" pages. It was a story I couldn't let go of. Will and Lake's love story had me laughing and crying out loud. Both books are as good as any others that are hot right now but without all of the sex...still very much worth the read.
