Poker for Dummies (For Dummies Series)

since learning about poker from this book, i can truly say that i was taught by the best. this book is great for beginners and really covers all the essential things you need to take into consideration while playing. this might seem overwhelming at first, but you are taken through each consideration step by step, so that by the end you can make a good decision in a matter of seconds. the different variations of poker - online, home games, cardrooms etc are also dealt with. since lou krieger is the host of royal vegas poker, i started playing there and am making great progress using the tips as provided by this book. so, in the end, it gives you the basics for a winning formula.

Poker for Dummies (For Dummies Series)

this book is great fun. i especially enjoyed the anecdotes and handy tips. i was a bit concerned about all the things you have to take into consideration when playing poker: your starting hands, what other players might have in their hands, what the possibilities of getting the hand you want, outs etc, but this is dealt with deftly. lou krieger is the host of royal vegas poker and i used his advice when i played there, so this book helped me tremendously to win. this is why this book is so great, it shows you how to play in differently for different formats - online, home games, at cardrooms. it also helps the mathematically challenged (like me) to understand how to work out the different scenarios etc. it also helped me understand exactly why the maths was so important - to make the right decision. final verdict: a good investment if ever there was one.

Now I can play with the boys!

I never understood the rules of poker and got left out of many friendly games. This book enabled me to 'study' on my own, and join the gang at work in their monthly contests.
