Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
This series of books brings to life the festivals and cultures of many countries of the world. A map and a general description of the people of the specific country are presented. The dates and nature of the celebrations are detailed by season. In Poland, All Saint's Day is an important ceremony for remembering family and friends who have died. As in many Christian countries, Christmas celebrations are important. Wigilia is the elaborate Christmas Eve feast that starts the Christmas celebrations. Karnawal before Lent and Holy Week are important Polish celebrations. Lots of colorful photographs show the festivals, with many images of children. Each book in this series includes an appropriate craft activity and food recipe. The art projects in this selection are to make a Polish flag, paper lace serviettes and a Palm Sunday palm. The recipe is for nut mazurek, a cake that is the highlight of Easter. Part of the "Festivals of the World" series.
