    A reviewer

What an extraordinary woman! What an extraordinary dog! Their adventures were captivating. I met Helen Thayer, Charlie and Bill at one of her lectures in Seattle, WA. I immediately fell in love with the big teddy bear, Charlie, but who would not. Hats off to Bill for his unwavering support! Her adventures came to life on the pages as she and Charlie traveled to the Magnetic North Pole and back home. Charlie's new home! Thank you!

    Excellent

Normally an expedition book would not interest me however, Polar Dream is heartwarming, a must for any dog lover, the way Charlie, the wolf/dog protected her even though they had just met is amazing.

    Good story, very inspirational

This story about how Helen Thayer, at age 50, made a solo trek to the magnetic north pole with just her dog for company is absolutely riveting. Watching as she refuses to let anything stand in her way of her goal, including charging polar bears and life-threatening storms that blow away her food supply, makes for a very inspirational plot. Helen proves that obstacles are only in our minds. And watching her dog Charlie go from a shy creature who's not used to getting any attention to a loving, personality riddled dog who risks his own life to protect Helen is charming and heartwarming. Highly recommend this book to women who are struggling with mid-life issues.
