Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This slim volume in Pelican's "Classic" series provides just enough information for those new to Polish cooking. Easy-to-make recipes are written for beginning cooks. Dishes like Canapés, Sausage and Cabbage, Potato Pancakes, and Plum Cake are each introduced with history about the recipe (e.g., Ukraine, Russia, and Poland all claim to be the originators of beet soup). Peter Zeranski's parents are Polish, and his wife, Laura, learned to cook Polish food from his mother. A high-quality, affordable book on a rarely covered cuisine.

    Gotta go to Poland someday!
For the complete Polish cuisine experience, this book has it all. Color photographs of each dish - clear and simple instructions - as well as interesting tidbits on Polish customs, folklore, and history. What I love best about Eastern Europeans food are the unexpected flavor combinations - dill pickles in soup for example! In this book you will find some real tasty dishes like red cabbage with apples salad, potato pancakes, pierogies of course, and a to-die-for plum cake. There are also time saving tips for complicated dishes, which brings the intimidation factor way down.

My husband is from Poland, and so I, as did Laura Zeranski, learned to cook Polish dishes to continue that culinary tradition for our family. For 30 years, I have consulted and used Peter Zeranski's mother's cookbook - _The Art of Polish Cooking_ as my default go-to for recipes to cook any particular Polish dish.

I was thrilled when I saw this book in the library. The authors' names gave it away immediately as Alina Zeranska's legacy. I took it home and saw so very many of our favorite dishes, beautifully photographed and so nicely written. I tried about half a dozen of them and found them wonderful. They are more clearly written than in the 1968 book and updated to the modern day's ingredients and techniques.

My husband was delighted with the results, expecially the pieroszki, which for some reason I hardly ever make. The Zeraqnskis' instructions were effortless to follow and the results sublime. My husband thanks you!

I will be buying copies not only for myself, but for our two now-adult children. It is a perfect collection of most of the very nicest and most iconic Polish recipes.
