Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This handy paperback guide provides information related to Democratic, Republican, and third political parties; legislative bodies; elections; and election campaigns. Published annually, it is divided into more than 20 sections covering political parties, associations, publications, publishers, media commentators, pollsters, consultants, and think tanks. Typical entries, which are brief and well formatted, include contact information (name, address, phone/FAX, E-mail, and web site). Overviews discuss the political market place and political associations, elections, and the media. Most of the information is current through mid-1998, with highlights including information about 200 of the largest PACs (political action committees), political prizes and awards, Clinton's 1998 State of the Union Address, and the Republican Response to the 1998 Address. Use of this resource is enhanced by name/organization, geographic, and subject indexes. Libraries that already own The Encyclopedia of the Republican Party/The Encyclopedia of the Democratic Party (LJ 11/1/96), also edited by Kurian and Schultz, will appreciate the convenience and price of this single-volume work. Collections with the World Almanac of U.S. Politics (LJ 8/89) may decide to buy this one as well to update the collection.--Elizabeth Connor, Medical Univ. of South Carolina, Charleston Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
