Gr 9 Up-McNeese begins this carefully written volume with a discussion of revolutionary thinkers and political activists. He then focuses on seven major revolutions: the American, French, those of the early-19th century, Mexican, Russian, Chinese, and Iranian, and devotes a chapter to the future of revolutions. The book is mindfully written and highly informative, with descriptive biographical sidebars and informative time lines throughout. A few black-and-white archival photos appear in each chapter. The text is readable and the material is well organized. What is vexing is determining the intended audience. Teachers of history would find the book interesting and educational, but unless a high school student is assigned to write a paper about political revolutions in general, it doesn't fit easily into the curriculum for any particular year. This does not diminish its quality, but raises a big question about "fit." A worthy purchase for libraries needing more resources dealing with the topic.-Marcie Mann, Lafayette Jr. Sr. High School, NY Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
