"The best textbook on the European Union to date.  Period." -- George Tsebelis, UCLA
"Hix's admirably lucid exposition melds state-of-the-art theory and rich empirical detail into what is likely to become the leading text on how the European Union's everyday political process actually works." -- Andrew Moravcsik, Princeton University
"This volume has a rare combination of virtues: accessible for students and required reading for EU scholars." -- Gary Marks, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Hix (London School of Economics and Political Science) provides an overview of the workings of the European Union that draws on the general theories and methods of political science. For each of the main processes in the EU political system<-->executive, legislative and judicial politics, public opinion, interest groups and parties, and regulatory, redistributive, monetary, internal security and global policies<-->he introduces the key political science tools, reviews recent theoretical research, and applies this knowledge in descriptive analysis. A smart and conceptual guide to alternative theorerical perspectives of EU

This book contains a treasury of theoretical approaches to EU. It summarises and explores further the possibilities to study European Union as a political system. It is very innovative and challenges the most popular approaches, developed in international relation theory by offering completely different perspective.
