Overview

In the beginning, the Bible triggered a revolution in human thought and later established Western civilization's moral and philosophical foundation. Many people though-from authors to pundits-mock it for their own purposes and political agendas. However, the Bible remains the bestselling book of all time, believed by nearly two billion people (Christians and Jews) to be divinely inspired. In his hard-hitting new book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to The Bible, author Robert J. Hutchinson details the facts behind the numerous truths the anti-religious secularists don't want you to know about, including:

•Recent archaeological discoveries confirm the historical accuracy of many Bible stories
•The Bible made modern science possible (which is why it started in the Middle Ages)
•Biblical laws paved the way for democracy and limited government
•The Bible promotes human freedom

•The enemies of the Bible are enemies of true reason and tolerance.

In this new installment in the bestselling P.I.G. series, Hutchinson silences the secularists and atheists with historical evidence, undeniable facts, and insightful revelations-proving why the Bible is still the bestselling book of all time-and so much more.

An Outstanding Defense of a Good Book

A friend gave me a copy of this brand-new book and I was blown away. It's unlike any book on the Bible you'll ever read. Instead of being an apologetics-type book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Bible gives you the 'big picture' of how dramatically the ideas in the Bible utterly transformed the world. The author argues that the Bible paved the way for the recognition of universal human rights, the notion of equality, of the dignity of women, limited government, even experimental science. He's also very funny, occasionally sarcastic, when poking holes in the arguments of what he calls today's 'atheist crusaders.' If you want an invigorating defense of the place of the Bible in western culture -- or even just want to learn more about the Bible -- this is a great way to do it. I think this would be a perfect book to give to skeptical teenagers so they can appreciate more why they're forced to read the Bible in Sunday School or in church. A delight!

Politically Incorrect or just plain Incorrect?

I started reading this book hoping that it would be an erudite exploration of of the composition and significance of the Bible and instead find a supposedly comprehensive apologetic that is highly selective in its evidence to the point of being dishonest. The author's point that archaeology has essentially 'confirmed' the details of the biblical narative and the limited evidence he provides (Abraham and camels) is laughably incomplete. He at best only superficially delves into the process of composition and timeline of the Bible which is essential in understanding the background and ultimate truthfulness of its stories. He seems to categorize all those not in agreement with the Bible's historicity as atheists but fails to mention that many of those scholars that question the Bible are themselves Christians and Jews. His handling of the moral shortcomings of the Bible is similarly facile and he employs the tactics of apologists in glibly glossing over the evidence that does not support his thesis. He cites research on genocide and the human costs of conflicts and blames atheist states (not Christian) for the greatest costs in human lives over the past century. He of course forgets the legacy of the crusades and Christiandom's regretably non-Christian treatment of its own heretics as well as others in less enlightened times. In fact many of those who pulled the triggers or threw the execution levers in supposedly atheist states were Christians. Overall, several of the Politically Incorrect Guides that I've read have been very disappointing and misleading. What they fail to mention is at least as important as what they do. They give an incomplete and biased picture of their subject. They should not be relied on at all for complete or hard information and the Politically Incorrect Guide to the Bible is no exception.
