Combustion is known to contribute substantially to damage to the at mosphere and therefore this book reviews current knowledge of the mech anisms by which the main pollutants are formed in combustion systems. In most situations, pollutants are present as trace components and the ir formation and removal is strongly conditioned by the chemical react ions initiated by fuel consumption. Specific papers therefore define p recisely the general properties of combustion chemistry for gaseous, l iquid and solid fuels.
