Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Polymer clay is a versatile medium with unlimited possibilities for fanciful beads. Diffendaffer specializes in unusual shapes and textures that are hand-formed, lathe-turned, or molded. His well-illustrated projects for a variety of beads will appeal to both beginners and experienced beadmakers. This is a good selection on a popular topic for public libraries.

I found this book a joy to read and use in my art. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in making advanced polymer clay jewelry.

with lots of interesting techniques -- some more challenging than others so there's a lot of variety.

I am a beginner at working with polymer clay and I found the steps outlined in this book easy to follow, illustrated with good photos, and the techniques are definitely useful to a beginner. Not all the specific colors/designs chosen here appeal to me but of course I can substitute my own preferences for my projects. Almost all of the techniques require a pasta machine to condition and press the clay and an oven dedicated to baking polymer clay is also recommended because the fumes can leave toxic traces; these were equipment outlays that surprised and discouraged me, at least temporarily. I haven't looked at many other polymer clay bead books so I don't know if this is how most people do it or the preference of the author of this book. On the whole it is an attractive, useful, and inspiring book.
