Short story excerpt:

She remembered her initial excursion onto the ice, being run into by a boy playing hockey at the end of the rink. Actually, she hardly remembered the collision at all. What she remembered mostly, and held onto, was how nice he had been afterwards, lifting her up, brushing her off, apologizing profusely and asking again and again if she was all right as he held her arm and skated with her to the quiet safety at the far edge of the ice.

Meet the Author

I live on a small and mostly defunct farm in western New York, where the events of a typical day include writing and walking my dogs--items not necessarily listed in order of priority. (At least not from the dogs' point of view.)

A good story and was surprised with the ending and that doesn't mean it wasn't a good ending.

This is a subtle, romantic short story which left me wanting to see more, and wishing that it didn't end. Luxuriously paced, vivid, and easy to read.

I'm frustrated by reading such a short story written by a good writer. This story could go sooo far. I hope to see a full novel by Fancher.
