Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Barbara Allen
What young adult can ignore a book with the word "poop" on the cover? In Poop Collectors, Armpit Sniffers, and More, dirty but real jobs are shown to kids in a way that they can easily understand. In this high-interest book, kids are exposed to road kill and crime-scene cleaners with age-appropriate vocabulary. Young adults ask questions about bodily functions on a daily basis, but many adults don't even know why we get things like eye boogers either. In Snot, Poop, Vomit, and More the body's functions are explained to children on their level. These books are fun looks into the gross world around us that young readers, particularly, are obsessed with. Laughs and giggles are sure to follow when readers learn about snot, poop, and disgusting jobs. All books include a table of contents and indexes. (Yucky Science) Reviewer: Barbara Allen
Children's Literature - Justina Engebretson
If the title does not scare the reader away, then perhaps the introduction will! One takes for granted everyday things, such as clean streets, flushing toilets, and deodorant that works, but someone, often unseen by most, makes those everyday things possible. A part of the "Yucky Science" series, this chapter book takes readers on a tour of some of the world's dirtiest jobs. From sewer workers to professional odor testers, readers will cringe when they learn what some people do for a living, or maybe they will be inspired to follow similar career paths. Not only does this book help children understand the kind of work that certain careers entail, it also serves to inspire an appreciation for those who bravely undertake some of the "yucky" jobs that make this world a clean place to live in. An elementary teacher might find this book useful as supplementary material for a unit about communities or careers. The book also includes a list of further study resources concerning the topic. Overall, this book is an entertaining yet educational read that is sure to capture the attention of many middle readers. Reviewer: Justina Engebretson
