Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
There are 25 pop-up nursery rhymes in this book by the author of The Most Amazing Hide-and-Seek Alphabet Book; that's about three tabs, flaps or other generous feats of paper engineering per page. The cow jumps eternally over the moon, a goofy-looking Humpty Dumpty crashes to the ground as many times as readers like, four-and-twenty blackbirds leap out of the pie, and London Bridge collapses wildly into the water. The selection may be a standard one, but Crowther's zany illustrations, even without pop-uppery, make this bouncy, lively fare. Ages 3-8. (October)
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2 A collection of 25 nursery rhymes, 2 or 3 to a page, decorated with movable illustrations that feature all sorts of imaginative special effects. Humpty Dumpty and Jack and Jill come to unfortunate but not gory ends, Jack jumps high over an unlit candle, both the Incey Wincey spider and ``Donkey, donkey, old and grey'' bear delightfully exaggerated expressions, blackbirds explode from the pie in all directions, and London Bridge crashes down dramatically. Children are going to love pulling the tabs and spinning the wheels, although as with Crowther's other books, some of the effects are fragile. Librarians may find this a chal lenge to process, since the book is de signed with little empty space, but it's a natural for storytime sharing with small groups.
