Overview

This budget sampler from Ohio's Nice Guy Records (with help from Poppunk.com) features a solid lineup of bands on the label (Scrubs), the mildly well-known (Juliana Theory, Yellowcard), and various hopefuls. The Travoltas' "Get Outta My Car" is better than anything on the Dutch group's album Step on the Gas... And Don't Look Back!, Daycare Swindlers add a mild ska flavor to "31st & M," and Dynamite Boy's "No Way Out" is almost giddy. Material from Bottom Line, the Scaries, Fake I.D., and Student Rick follows the exact same template. This is music made by kids for kids; it doesn't break new ground, but it's not bad, either, and offers plenty of chunky guitar breaks, meaningful vocal yells, and rapid-fire pacing. The selections from Bottom Line, Unknown, Quit, Student Rick, and Showoff were previously unreleased.
