Carley is a boy who made some bad decisions at the age of fourteen. While he was living in the city, he got in some trouble. His family did not know what to do with him to get him to change his ways. This book is full of twists and turns. What will happen to Carley? Will he change his ways? As a result for Carley's bad behavior, he will have to stay with his uncle over in the farms of Minnesota. Carley does not realize that this will be the worst summer he will ever have. When he gets there he meets his uncle, which is a blacksmith, and farm owner. The first time he saw him he was cleaning out a beautiful horse's hooves. His uncle told him that he will change his ways with hard labor. Carley slowly starts to realize the meaning of life through hard work. Carley thought blacksmithing was the most challenging work ever. Will his uncle change his troublesome ways? Gary Paulsen is my favorite author, but this wasn't his best work. The book was a little flat, and didn't describe details well enough. Over all this was a good book, but I've read better books by Gary. Even though the average rating was 4 ½, I give it a 3 1/2, but I would recommend this book. This book is full of twist and turns. Carley is a boy who made some poor choices at the age of fourteen. For his bad behavior he had to stay with uncle for a summer of hard work. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy action. This symbolizes hope and kept me on the edge of my seat. I encourage readers to read this book; I think you'll enjoy it.

If you like books written by Gary Paulson this is the book for you. It is so well written, this book is one of my top 5 favorites on my book list for sure!! I would reccomend this book to anyone!
