Popular Mechanics knows: there are two types of people in the world—those able to fix whatever goes bust, and those who beg the first group for help when something goes wrong. But it doesn’t have to be that way, because this easy-to-follow guide will give anyone the basics to tackle those frustrating (and sometimes nerve-wracking) quandaries

Overview

Popular Mechanics knows: there are two types of people in the world—those able to fix whatever goes bust, and those who beg the first group for help when something goes wrong. But it doesn’t have to be that way, because this easy-to-follow guide will give anyone the basics to tackle those frustrating (and sometimes nerve-wracking) quandaries that crop up around the house: plumbing problems, electrical snafus, appliance failures, computer and electronics breakdowns, pest infestations, and furniture in need of renewal. They range from the serious to the merely annoying, but every one is cause for concern. So, whether the issue is a fast repair for a running toilet or a leaking pipe, or a simple, inexpensive way to keep deer from pillaging the garden, it’s all in here.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Can't duct tape fix everything? Petersen, author of home improvement and organization books, presents a collection of fix-it tips in this compact volume. With tongue-in-cheek humor and scant illustrations, the text is clear and concise, and experts are cited frequently. Featuring a quick intro to tools, the book covers home maintenance, small repairs, structural problems, and appliance repairs. An emergency preparedness kit is also included. The comprehensive index makes up for the loose organization of topics. This easy-to-follow book certainly doesn't replace large homeowner manuals, but it contains unique tips and information. Recommended for most collections, if not for your home library.

My husband gave this book to me as a gift. I thought...whatever...but I actually sat down and started reading through. It is full of interesting ways to fix EVERYTHING! I couldn't believe it. It has so many fixes in there you would never remember them all. It is a book that you have to keep handy so that when things start to go wrong...then you can pull it out and do it yourself. I have it on the kitchen shelf with the cookbooks! Written very simply..anyone can understand. Lots of diagrams...Well worth it! I highly recommend this book!
