When I came across this book, I was both shocked and in ecstasy when I saw my g.g.grandfather Sampson Altman Jr. on the cover. I have always had a personal connection to the Civil War long before I even knew my g.g.grandfather had died in it. The photos and writings were so touching that I felt as though I was remembering rather than merely reading. On page 32, we read, '...all we know for certain of Altman Sampson was that, like so many others, he fought in the Civil War, he fell ill, he died, and he was young. Of his thoughts and words we know nothing.' Let me add, that most likely his thoughts were of his beautiful wife Alice Ann and his three small sons, who later moved to Florida from Georgia after the war was over. Alice Ann never remarried. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
