ELLEN FULCHER CLOUD researched and wrote the award-winning "Island History" series that includes Ocracoke Lighthouse, Old Salt, and Portsmouth. (The first two have been republished in a combined edition, Ocracoke Lighthouse and The Old Salts.) A native of Ocracoke Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks, the late author was an historian, preservationist, and genealogist who helped many with research. She was also an accomplished sketch artist.
