Overview

po·seur (noun): a person who pretends to be what he or she is not.

Charlotte Beverwil, Janie Farrish, Melissa Moon, and Petra Greene attend exclusive Winston Prep in the Hollywood Hills. And that's all they have in common. But hang out together? They'd rather be hanged. Borrow one another's clothes? They'd sooner borrow a zit. So when these four sophomores are forced into a class to create their own fashion label, they Clash with a capital C. Janie thinks Melissa and Charlotte are Beverly Hills brats. They dismiss Janie as a Valley rat in sheep's clothing. And Petra, well . . . Petra couldn't care less. Can a cool coquette, a shy punk, a hippie goddess, and a ghettoglam egomaniac make beautiful couture together? At Winston Prep, survival of the fittest comes down to who fits in-and what fits.

Introducing a juicy new series from the publisher of the national bestselling series Gossip Girl, The Clique, The It Girl, and The A-List.

Includes Do-It-Yourself instructions by NYC fashion label Compai and fashion sketches throughout by the author

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Maude enthusiastically embraces obvious stereotypes in her debut novel, taking them so far over the top that she delivers a very amusing read. Choosing an exclusive private school in Los Angeles as a backdrop, the author dresses the mega-wealthy youth of Beverly Hills and Bel Air in Dior, Marc Jacobs and Jimmy Choo, and has them roar to school in Porsches and Jaguars, while fish-out-of-water twins Janie and Jake Farrish, scholarship students from the Valley, shop at Goodwill and share ownership of a 16-year-old Volvo. The same gleeful exaggeration applies to Janie's three classmates in a special studies course focusing on fashion design: there's Charlotte, bored after a week of a summer intensive embroidery studies at a convent in Bruges, who arranges a midnight escape by chopper; Melissa, daughter of the rap producer Seedy, who announces, "In the grand tradition of Jennifer Lopez and Oprah, I dream to be more than just a person. I dream to be a brand"; and Petra, the ridiculously beautiful daughter of the most sought-after plastic surgeon in Hollywood, who tendentiously deplores vanity and wants to create an anti-fashion clothing line called Moral Fiber. Though the plot is predictable and the pacing uneven, the novel dishes up outsize amounts of humor, mostly at the expense of Maude's narcissistic characters. Juicy, stylish fun. Ages 13-up. (Jan.)

From The Critics
Perfect for fans of Gossip Girl or The O.C. Maude creates a world of wealth in which the rotating narrators thrive. In this story set in a California high school, three girls deal with the traditional issues of family, fitting in, and boys. What sets them apart, though, is their passion for fashion. The three girls have unique personalities and readers will most likely relate to one more than the others. Despite their differences, they unite to start a fashion label. The girls have more than their fair share of drama and fights, The book includes sketches and DIY tips for the extremely enthusiastic reader. Mild mature situations include love interests, but nothing too detailed or explicit. Age Range: Ages 15 to 18. REVIEWER: Joanna Solomon (Vol. 42, No. 1)

Four girls, four dilemmas, one mindset: fashion.

On the first day of her freshman year, Janie Farrish was already criticized, all because of her horrible acne. Now that all of it is gone, Janie wants everyone to see her new look as she enters her sophomore year. But the more she thinks about it, the more she feels like she is just trying too hard. With wanting to become just a tad bit popular, it doesn't help that her twin brother, Jake, is joining the in crowd, making his way toward Janie's enemy, Charlotte. At least she has her drawings to keep her mind off things. Even though she may not think that she is attractive, others do, especially the senior who just transferred back to Winston Prep, Evan.

Charlotte will always be the popular trendsetter. She can have any clothes she wants and any guy she wants. Unfortunately, trying to get Jake as her boyfriend is harder than she thought, mainly because she thinks Janie is in her way. The only way for her to get Jake is for Charlotte to play nice, which is easier said then done, since she is the one that gave Janie that terrible nickname, Pompidou.

Melissa Moon is ghetto fabulous. Being half Korean and half African-American, and the daughter of a very famous rapper, Melissa has one thing on her mind: starting her own industry. She wants to start it quick so it can be powerful and successful. And her main goal is for everyone to breathe Melissa Moon.

Petra Green is just naturally beautiful. All the stuff she does to make herself look ugly, from wearing mismatched clothes to having not-so-perfect hair; nothing keeps Petra from being gorgeous. It also doesn't help when her plastic surgeon dad uses Petra to try and get more customers, by claiming that she was all his doing. All Petra wants to do is take care of her adopted sisters, and survive her messed up home life.

All four girls propose their own special studies group, only to have them morph into one, whether they like it or not. Even though each girl is extremely different, they have one thing in common -- their passion for fashion.

Witty, artsy, and hilarious, POSEUR is a great start for this new series. Fashionistas look out because Janie, Charlotte, Melissa, and Petra are ready to conquer the fashion industry.

Okay i L-O-V-E the clique series and I wanted another book like that because I read all of them and the next one wasn't coming for like a couple months so I picked Posuer and the second in the series and let me tell you it was wayy GOOD!!! I loved these books alot because it shows all these people grouping together to make a fashion label when they are soo not alike! However, they aren't better than the clique. But its more grown up than the clique and in way different. okay okay read it to get wat i mean by this.

    Great Book!!

I really enjoyed the book once I knew each character's personality. I didn't like the beginning though, because they just tell you what each girl was wearing and describe their first day of school. It doesn't explain their personalties though. Also their is an on/off relationship going on through the book that I didn't really get at first but their is a really surprising twist at the end about the relationship. Overall it was a great book about fashionistas trying to get along!!

    Funny & Exciting Read!

I started reading "Posuer" with low expectations and ended the book with a positive reading experience. The story is great, the characters each have a distinct personality and style, and who doesn't love the cute sketches and drawings throughout the book? But what captured me the most was the writing. Rachel Maude's writing style is unique from many modern writers. She writes with simplicity, sarcasm, and humor which really adds charm to the novel. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and recommend the Posuer series to anyone who loves a wild and witty plot.

Poseur 'cause (admit it!)- its hard to always "be yourself"

Poseur it about four high school girls who love fashion but hate each other. They are forced to create a designer label for their exclusive LA private school TOGETHER. Can their differences help the label or destroy their reputations?
The book is hard to follow at first but once you get the hang of it you won't be able to stop reading. This is one of the most addicting books you will ever read-but them again I am obsessed with books-from the beginning you start thinking wow that girl knows how to dress! At first I kept reading cause I absolutely loved their style but then there is a moment in between the beginning and the middle that makes you flip the pages faster than you can read them to know what will happen next.
Is you like books like gossip girl or the clique you will absolutely love this book.Plus it teaches you that you can't always be the original one and you can't follow the crowd like a sheep either, you have to find a middle point to figure out who you are and who you want to be.

    Great Book

The book Poseur is about four very different types of girls all going to the same expensive private school in California. When the school insists to start school clubs and to propose ideas for clubs, the four teenagers¿ ideas revolve around fashion. When all four soon find out that each other are in the same club, they wonder if their differences will come in the way of creating one fashion piece for their label.
This book has the same publishers as series like The Clique and Gossip Girls. It is very good because it is funny and interesting, and the book is well-written. Poseur would be the perfect book for teenage girls that like fashion and designing.

    Not Bad For a Poppy

Generally I don't go for any books by Poppy Publishing, but this was a fashionable exception. Despite the bratty, cliqueish attitude displayed by all of the girls, this was a nice read and funny too. It's perfect for anyone who likes fashion and humor.
