Alice Walker
Alice Walker is one of the most prolific and important writers of our times, known for her literary fiction, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Color Purple (now a major Broadway play), her many volumes of poetry, and her powerful nonfiction collections. Her other bestselling books include In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens, The Temple of My Familiar, By the Light of My Father's Smile, The Way Forward Is with a Broken Heart, and We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For (The New Press). Her advocacy on behalf of the dispossessed has spanned the globe. She lives in northern California.

Biography

Alice Walker won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award for her novel The Color Purple, which was preceded by The Third Life of Grange Copeland and Meridian. Her other bestselling novels include By the Light of My Father's Smile, Possessing the Secret of Joy and The Temple of My Familiar. She is also the author of two collections of short stories, three collections of essays, five volumes of poetry and several children's books. Her books have been translated into more than two dozen languages. Born in Eatonton, Georgia, Walker now lives in Northern California.

    Must Read !!!!!!

    For me this book brought me face to face with the horror of female circumcision. It helped me to understand that yes, this practice still goes on today and how we as free citizens should help third world countries to understand that there is no need for it.

    outstanding book!

    I must admit, the beginning was very slow but if you can survive it, you will find yourself reading a very captivating story on a subject that most of us are, indeed, ignorant about. It revolves around female circumsition, a subject that i knew nothing about before reading this book. Alice Walker lives up to her well earned name. An absolute MUST-READ!!

    A Real Eye-Opener

    This book is a must-read. I received quite an education on a subject I knew very little about. It is disturbing, enlightening and moving. Alice Walker has a unique and wonderful style of writing. This book is hard to put down.
