TRAPPED UNDERGROUND!

In a small West Virginia town, a tragic coal mining accident traps 13 men deep in the bowels of the earth. Their only hope: self-contained breathing apparatus—SCBAs—that supply only about an hour’s worth of air. But before they can even use these safety devices, an explosion rips through the mine, killing 90 men.

Upon learning of the accident, Anthony Harrison, chairman of Sterling Limited, who supplies the SCBAs, immediately dispatches newly appointed President Rick Henderson to the mine. Rick soon discovers the unthinkable—Sterling knowingly sold defective SCBAs to the mining company.

Rick teams up with Buck Schultz, the son of one of the miners who died in the explosion, and together they sort through a web of corporate cover-ups, a secret smuggling ring…and murder.

In Power & Deceit, Richard Jackson tells a timely tale of corporate greed that is paid for with human lives.

Editorial Reviews

Barbara Pleet
Like one of the other reviewers, I, too, thought this would be too political for me, but that perception disappeared very quickly after I started reading.

Richard Jackson creates compelling scenes that draw you into them both intellectually and emotionally. As an avid reader of suspense novels, I often figure out the endings, but this one was a refreshing twist I never saw coming, and that made the book a real winner in my eyes.

Every once in awhile I am pleasantly surprised by a new author with a fresh voice and a great talent for storytelling. Jackson carries his readers effortlessly along through smart storytelling and compelling character portrayals. The plot is perfectly paced and at no time does the story seem to drag. It is suspenseful and entertaining and is sure to have readers flying through the pages towards a satisfying and memorable finale.

Power And Deceit" is a riveting story that takes you from America's high and mighty boardrooms to the depths of the mines in West Virginia. Doing whatever it takes to get ahead takes on a whole new meaning in "Power And Deceit". The author's business experience allows him to create overly ambitious characters whose only concern, even at the expense of others' lives, is their self aggrandizement.
Ray Walsh
"Power and Deceit" is a fast-paced tale of greed and corruption by the author of "The Reckoning". It opens with a mining disaster at a West Virginia coal mine, with 13 men trapped underground. As rescuers dig frantically, the miners grab a new shipment of self-contained breathing apparatus - only to find that they don't work. Another explosion tears through the mine, killing many others; Rick Henderson, the new president of the company that manufactured the breathing devices, goes to the scene.
