Not sure where all the negative comments are coming from about this product. You CAN buy just the charging cable if you want. Its available right there in the B&N store. Also, I have nothing by POSITIVE things to say about the B&N Chat customer service I received. My Nook HD charger was making a loud squealing noise when it was plugged in. I chatted with the representative, she asked for my serial number, and sent a replacement right away. No issues. Couldn’t be happier with the process all around!

I love my Nook and here is what you get with the customer service. NOTHING> They have the worst customer service on the planet. Barnes and Nobles knows they have a problem with the Nook color charger. It bends and breaks. They have had thousands of complaints. I tried to get a replacement and I got some idiot who did not speak English and asked me to repeat my name 14 tiems. That is great customer service when they don't even speak the same language. I have bought dozens and dozens off books for this Nook but Barnes and Nobles only cares about getting your money. There is zero customer service. I even asked to speak to a manager he refused his name and held the phone and wouldn't answer  questions. I was left with a less than stellar customer service experience but the Better Business Bureau will hear how Barnes and Nobles are selling these Nooks for  hundreds of dollars and refusing to offer any service. I am disgusted with Barnes and Nobles and will never do business with them again.

New design for the Hd+  is great. while previous design broke more easily than it should  (I have my original one and it did not break.)  this design for the HD is much better.  the one star reviewer is referring to the older model

Charging cable is available separately for $15, but currently the charging kit (charger plus cable) is also $15. This is not a bad deal because the charger is a standard USB high power charger so it can be used to charge ANY  device, and it's designed so that it fits into a single outlet on a power strip without blocking the adjacent outlets. I have three Nook  HD chargers lined up on my surge protector to charge my Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nook HD+.

I just want everyone to know that I just got off a live chat with B&N customer service about my charging cable. I got immediate assistance. The representative was very helpful!!I am quite pleased!

well the charger cord for my HD gave up the today. battery was at 45% and would not charge, green light came on but would not show that it was charging. Changed the cord and now it chargers. Problem is I live in Alaska and no B&N in the southeast part. So now I better order  another cord. had the same problem with my other nooks but was hoping the problem was solved with the HD, but 4 months later I have to  change the cord. Love the nook for reading, I have over 800 books, the reason I have the nook is to support B&N and the authors but I hope they will take the time and take care of their customers.

This is a well-made and well-designed charger. It does what it's made to do... what more is there to say?

I believe the Nook is a better reader than the Kindle Fire. However, the power cord problem leads to a door called "Customer Service" and believe me, you do not want to open this door. It will leave you feeling infuriated, frustrated, and actually conscious of the rising of your blood pressure. You will repeat yourself again, and again, and again. You will be placed on hold while elevator music plays, and tech support  types phones keys in your ear. And sometimes you may actually slip into hold limbo. This is when they actually think they have transferred  your call to someone or some place who can really and finally help you, but in actuality have only pressed the wrong sequence of keys, and so have in the end, only placed you on perpetual hold status. When this happens to you, hopefully you'll be smart enough to realize it before you sit there forever like I did.  And people, when you finally reach the point of resolution - the part where you are supposed to feel happy and smart about your decision to go with the Nook over the Fire - you'll find yourself feeling cheated somehow. So, what am I really trying tell you? Write a letter to Barnes and Noble! Complain! Do something! Barnes and Noble has a BIG problem, and it is not the Nook; it is the customer service.

I can't believe BN has made it so hard to get another power cord. I was just at the store and was the second person there in seconds looking for a new power cord for my nook HD. I understand you don't sell that device anymore, but why can't you still serve the customers who were true to you when everyone else I knew was moving to the Kindle? Shame! Something as simple as a power cord should be easy. Now I can't even buy one here? What gives?

It is inexcusable that such an essential part is not available to order. Every time I have checked the local store has been out of stock, but there is no way to order it on the web site.

I give it a -100.  You pay close to $300 for the Nook HD+ and then less than a year later your charger doesn't work and you cannot purchase one in the stores  and they refer you to online and they don't have it either.  I was told that you could get it on line and when you go online it says in store only.  This is BS.  I spent a lot of money on this book and cannot use it because even tech support doesn't have a new charger they can send me.  I am thoroughly disgusted with Barnes and Noble.  I have done business with them for many years.  I will not buy anymore electronic s from them again.  If this is the way they are going to do business they will have problems soon.  No one is purchasing printed books much anymore and they are making a bad name for their electronic ones.

Can I not just get the block? The cord is fine but I lost the adapter. It seems like a waste of money to get the block and cord. Also, I never had a single problem with your robot-like customer service. Please make the adapter only for sale!.

I have had my NOOK color for a year and a half and this will be my second cord replacement. I have many other electronic devices that require charging and none of them disintegrate like the NOOK power cord. I wish they would take a note from the curling iron producers.....SOMETHING! At some point my warranty will run out and I will be footing the bill to replace them, or not. It is also not a "universal" plug either, I have not found a replacement yet so B&N has me locked in. Hopefully, they will read these posts and respond.

Absolutely nobody carries the charger! Not in store and not even online- this is absurd. The only people selling them online is people on Amazon for about what I paid for the tablet itself!!! C'mon Barnes & Noble- I should have gone with a Kindle :(

all the comments are true. i haven't even had mine for a year and i have had tons of problems. and they can't really help you with anything. simply because this is a waste of money. i will never buy anything from barnes & nobles ever again.

B&N, this charger cord has been a long standing issue! Please fix this problem. My cord will no longer charge either, same issue for about 2 years as I can see by these posts. That is ridiculous! I don't even charge my NOOK everyday like I do our phones. No problems with the phone chargers so this can obviously be fixed. PLEASE!

I am joining the ranks of those who find your Customer Service a giant pile of BS. The recorded message options are NOT applicable to my problem, so they just sent me to the website. I also have a power cord problem like so many of these other people. It's JUNK. I only wanted to know if the one for sale online would work for my older Nook, and the models listed did not include mine. If I wanted to go to the website, darn it, I would go to the website. I want to SPEAK to a real person who speaks ENGLISH. Is that too much to ask?. If my NOOK itself ever dies on me, I will NEVER buy another Barnes and Nobles product.

I have had my nook HD+ since June of this year. I love the nook its self. The charger is a dangerous piece of crap!!! Mine stopped working almost a month ago. The light would turn green then orange then turn off. This is where it got fun! I call customer service get some guy who can not speak English and maybe understands every third word!!! After a good hour of repeating myself he tells me. To plug it up and leave it for a min. or 2. Then it starts smoking!! I told him i had to unplug it because it was smoking and he said no no leave it plugged in!!!!!!!!! He finally gives up after i tell him i prefer my house not in flames. He says i still have my warranty and he will send me one! Almost four weeks later and yep you guessed it. It never came lol. I am not buying one they will send me my free one and i will also be talking to my lawyer about the smoking one!

I like the Nook. Hate the charger. I bought two Nook Colors--one in June 2012; one in September 2012. Before November 2012 was over, I had to replace both cords. Then in March 2013 I bought a Nook HD. Now August 2013 I find myself needing to replace that cord as well.  B&N need to make their charger cords better or they will be losing a great amount of customers. Your chargers are made of poo!

I adore my Nook, this is my second one since 2012. However, the Power kits are not  made for the long haul. My first Nook color: the battary died and they don't replace them. This Nook HD...the power cord in less than a year has come apart. Now, my lical B+N has none...none? BTW, if you want customer service, go to the local store if you can. Tech support fixed a glitch in 5 minutesh

Barnes and Noble has made it physically impossible to buy this product. In the store, they told me that it's available online only. On here it says I can only pick it up in the store. Which is it? In the meantime I have  a Nook I can't use because the original power cord doesn't work.

Trying to purchase a Power Kit in Asphalt for NOOK HD. There is no way to order it here on the web. The only option that is offered is: Available in stores.Pick Up In Store Near You.... However, for the past 6 months that I have been checking, it has been out of stock. We own 4 nooks and were ready to purchase a 5th. But if you can't get replacement parts when needed we may need to look at other options.

I have tried over and over to get a replacement cable for daughters Nook HD.  Wish I could order online since I have not found one at any stores.

I too love the nook. It has exactly what I need, without the bells and whistles that I don't. What I don't like is the fact that Barnes and Noble doesn't give a damn about anyone, after they've made their purchase. Once they come out with the next generation of Nook, anyone who has purchased an older model is screwed. The accessories page lists this and other Nook HD+ accessories. The problem, when you click on anything it says that it is no longer available online, but that I can get it in a local store. Click in a zip code, and it's out of stock. Check stores within reasonable driving distance, also out of stock. Check every store east of the Mississippi, also out of stock. The moral of this story. When purchasing a nook, of any kind, also include in the initial purchase a supply of additional cords, and any other accessory available at that time, that you might be interested in. Otherwise, you are simply screwed by Barnes and Noble. If you don't get it now, you never will.

This is my second Nook in less than 3 years, and I am now looking for my fourth cord. Their cords/chargers are terrible, but their customer service is worse. I just came from the Barnes and Noble store in Sarasota, where they had only one person working in the Nook section and the man in front of me had been waiting almost an our without so much as a "Someone will be with you as soon as possible." I waited myself about 20 minutes, then left. They absolutely SUCK. I will say, that when I was at the Barns and Noble in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts a couple of years ago, the service there was good. It might be a Florida thing. The customer service down here is terrible
