I Also Recommend:

    Positive Thinking = Positive Life

It's such a simple and effective concept, that positive thinking creates a positive life, yet hard to do at times- which is a good reason alone to read this book.

Most everything we accomplish each day starts out as a thought. Thoughts flash across our minds each day, all day long, and directly influence how we feel and what we do. So, if you spend your day thinking about negative things, expect to feel bad. On the other hand, if you spend your day concentrating on positive things, good things will happen. And that's basically the purposeand premise of this book- to change your thinking for the better, which in turn will influences your life. The book will "reset your sights" so to speak.

Each chapter of the book tackles important life issues, such as worrying, creating happiness, having energy, etc. Examples of the principles abound, and each chapter ends with a nice summary.

An inspiring and entertaining read, I recommend this book to anyone who needs a little nudge in the direction of positive thinking. Know though, that there is a definite religious tone throughout the book, which could bother some. Those looking for something a little more in the physical rather than cognitive realm to pick you up, might be better off with a book like "Exercise Beats Depression".

    I Also Recommend:

A book strong in life-changing teachings - "timeless" for a strong foundation for good living - both for then and now. It will never go out of "style" and it's teachings/content more important than ever in today's world.

I have read the "Power of Positive Thinking" numerous times and I never get tired of it's content. It's teachings and principles are as prudent today as when it was written - perhaps more so. Each reading helps me to get a new and stronger perspective of how to, first, think, then live in accordance with "nature's" laws (or spiritual). When the "going gets tough", I find it a book of much inspiration to keep my thinking up there and in positive, optimistic and overcoming framework. This book is one of my reading "staples" and is always kept in front on my bookshelf for an uplift when needed. Dr. Peale certainly understood the human person, our frailities - how life could be for us all and what it doesn't have to be, based on spiritual teachings - not religion. A must read often.

    Amazing!

This book, along with prayer and my faith, has truly changed the way I live and doing things. I have been so enlighten by the words of Mr. Peale. I have learned to have self confidence, how to eliminate my stress and live of life of optimism, zest, and most of all hope. I would recommend it highly even if you possess all of the things listed above.

    Timeless Book

Norman Vincent Peale's book (CD) is a timeless, very relevant read. I recently faced a cancer scare and reading his book gave me a lot of hope. He integrates the spirtual with the practical and provides a useful tool to living well.

I highly recommend this book to anyone ready to move to the next level in their life.

I like the Christian emphasis in this audio program, but prefer Optimal Thinking to positive thinking because it stops me from settling for second best.

    It changed my life

The Power of Positive Thinking changed my life. As a negative thinker and self doubter, I was plagued with depression and didn't live up to my potential. I've read the book many times and listened to the tapes over and over. Personally I love that Christian principals are included but a non Christian will learn just as much from this wonderful book.

Expect Success and you get Success

Norman Vincent Peale, one of America¿s most distinguished speakers was not born with that gift. As a child Norman was shy and retiring and had a terrible inferiority complex. Then to add to those feelings of inferiority, he was a preacher¿s son and believed that he was expected to be perfect. Well, he didn¿t want to be perfect he wanted to be hard-boiled and something else, he vowed never to become a preacher. He grew up in a religious family and as part of the church community from time to time they were all called upon to make public speeches. Norman was urged to join the others in their activities, but the thought of speaking in public scared him to death.
Eventually though, with the urging of his father, reading the Bible and interacting with other family members he began to shed those feelings of inferiority. Then once he got over his shyness and began to connect with an audience he became a very effective public speaker and writer. He also became a preacher, something that he had vowed earlier in life not to ever do.
After a number of years of interaction with church members as their minister he determined several simple truths about life. You must believe in yourself because, `without a humble and reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.¿ Basil King once said, ¿Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid.¿ Emerson declared a tremendous truth. ¿They conquer who believe they can.¿
Dr. Peale tells the story of a day on the golf course. It seems he hit the ball into some tall grass and when he finally located the almost hidden ball, he lamented about his chances of hitting it out. Well, his golf partner saw his dilemma and talked him through the problem. Dr. Peale took a swing, as instructed, and wound up hitting the ball near the green. He was delighted with the results and always remembered a comment made by his playing partner that day, `the rough is only mental.¿
Now while The Power of Positive Thinking is based on Dr. Peale¿s belief in God, he also says that belief in your own abilities play a large part in individual success or failure.
Self-confidence or the lack of it plays an important part in our lives. A survey of college students when asked to state their most difficult personal problem seventy five percent answered that it was a lack of confidence.
One of the ways to self-confidence is to expect the best. When you expect the best, you release a magnetic force in your mind, which by law of attraction tends to bring the best to you.
When you buy and read this remarkable book your attitude will change, and you¿ll find success -- sometimes in the most unexpected places.
Tom Barnes author of `The Hurricane Hunters and Lost in the Bermuda Triangle.¿

    definitely worth reading

The Power of Positive Thinking is a life changing book. It doesn't provide a quick fix of feel good words, and the book's impact will not fizzle with the passage of time. Norman Peale's book provides workable formulas that enable one to tap into an endless resovoir of positivity and peace that is available to all.

    Christian 'Think & Grow Rich'

In Think & Grow Rich, author Napoleon Hill mentions that there is a secret embedded between its lines, and often refers to getting in touch with 'Infinite Intelligence'. In the Power of Positive Thinking, Norman Vincent Peale removes the mysterious shroud and openly tells us of applied Christianity. All of the principles in the Power of Positive Thinking work, as long as you are willing to submit to them. Naysayers who are offended by open Christianity, or who approach this material with a healthy dose of skepticism, will be able to manufacture plenty of reasons to support their negative view. The language is sometimes dated and the concepts may seem quite strange to readers who are not evangelical Christians. Should that stop you from reading this? I pray that it doesn't. The choice is yours... Humble and not at all preachy, Norman Vincent Peale openly shares his own struggles with negative thinking, and tells how others have helped him overcome it. Plenty of examples are given to prove the worth of positive thinking, Biblical affirmations and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He rightly lets us know that positive thinking does not guarantee our success, but it does bring it much closer to the realm of possibility. Approach it with an open mind, and a whole new world will be opened to you. Larry Hehn, Author of Get the Prize: Nine Keys for a Life of Victory

Celebrate 50 Years and Add 2002 Update

Yes, it was 1952, a full 50 years ago that NVP published his first edition of The Power of Positive Thinking. A true cultural pioneer, he launched a movement in PMA = Positive Mental Attitude, and his original book is still very useful today. NVP's influence in academic psychology was eventually seen in the cognitive therapy revolution. One additional improvement began in 1986 when academic studies of 'constructive pessimism' appeared in the journal Cognitive Therapy and Research. Now we know that at least half of us can do even better if we supplement The Power of Positive Thinking with The Positive Power of Negative Thinking, described in her book as 'constructive pessimism' in 2002 by psychologist Julie Norem. With the two books side-by-side, access to both the classic and the updated strategies is at our fingertips. So I recommend combining the foundation and the update to achieve constructive thinking and better living as we begin this 21st Century. NVP remains relevant today.

Old Book, New Power for You

'The Power of Positive Thinking', although somewhat dated, is a moving, motivating, and impactive work. It is simply-written, but not a fast read at all. If the reader keeps in mind the time the book was written, and primarily focuses on the message, it will prove to be one of the most important literary self-help efforts published in the last century. The book is Christian-oriented, but even those, such as myself, who are not religious can come away with a new energy and a re-invigorated attitude. Put plainly, this book can change your life, and that's the truth.

    A life changing book!

I've read this book many times as well as many other of Peale's writings. He outlines workable ways to change your attitude and therefore your life. Most importantly for me he makes the bible seem like a handbook for today's world instead of a mystery. I wish I would have read this book way back in the 60s and 70s when I saw my parents read it!
