Overview

Losing our connection with Spirit may be the biggest problem we suffer from today. We want to face our challenges and disappointment with grace; be creative and inspired; feel excited by a purpose; and live fearlessly through an intuitive, guiding wisdom. We want to love and feel loved, and realize genuine peace . . . but as much as we desire a significant spiritual breakthrough and long to know our Divine selves, we’re still not making the commitment that will ensure our success.

We want the gifts, but we’re not engaging in the practical work necessary to obtain them, so we remain stuck and more frustrated than ever. We know a lot about the power of Spirit, yet we aren’t actually experiencing it. And we cannot do so through intellectual pursuits alone. In fact, we can only experience it through a deep, intentional daily practice of connecting with Spirit.

When you truly make this connection, you’ll realize that it’s the most authentic, lasting power you have in your life. In this enlightening book, spiritual teacher Sonia Choquette will show you that even though you can’t control the outside world, with the power of your Spirit, you can create a sense of purpose within that brings about profound contentment and personal peace—no matter what is going on around you.

How Is Your Spirit Today? Reconnect and Start to Live Your Joy!

"How is my Spirit today?" Is there a way to make the transition from ego to Spirit? Sonia Choquette's "The Power of Your Spirit, A Guide to Joyful Living," takes you through the transition from an ego driven life where we focus on getting more, striving after and living by limiting beliefs to a life filled with peace, joy and purpose in four clear steps. The first step is what Choquette calls, the "Awakening."" Like Humpty Dumpty, once you enter the awakening phase of your spiritual transformation, the world as you know it shatters - never to be reassembled again. And yet you discover that it was merely a shell that hid from you a much greater and more expansive reality that promises rewards, fulfillment, challenges, and peace like you've never known." This quote describes the first pivotal moments of "unaware awakening" in my life over 15 years ago when I desperately wanted a child and at the same time realized there had to be more to life than shopping for new outfits, binge drinking and making my life look perfect on the outside. I did not know that once I started looking within, my life would never be the same. But, rather than running from myself any longer, I was ready to change the channel and begin to unearth the spontaneous, authentic me who loves to teach and wants more than anything else to serve Life. Choquette illustrates her work with stories from her own experiences, family and clients throughout her years of teaching and sharing. One of the tools she teaches is to check in with your most authentic self by asking the question, "How is my Spirit today?" It's in this reconnection every day that keeps us from spiraling endlessly backwards. She even recommends you give the Spirit part of you a special name, so you can identify and relate more easily. I call mine "Sparkles" and try to remember to ask each day, "What would Sparkles like to do today?" Once you ask the question, breathe and connect to the authentic part of you and answers come. For me it's letting go of the fear of travel so I can teach yoga across the continent, giving myself permission to go for it and add new venues so I can reach more people, yoga with my feet in the grass or pausing in the midst of chores so I can play in the mud with my son! It takes practice, but eventually we can all become more masterful at leading our lives connected to Spirit and even become the kind of person we want to be around! As a yoga instructor I especially like the reminder she offers of "Keeping Your Fire Burning." "Tend to the fire of your spirit everyday. Every morning gently stretch, move, bend or walk for at least ten minutes shortly after awakening. Whether expressed in a few yoga postures, a trip to the gym, or a simple walk around the block, physical movement keeps your Spirit burning strong and channels its power toward your highest creative expression. Being stagnant or spending too much time in your head causes the fire to die out." Choquette's teachings have definitely impacted my life as I've learned to introduce Spirit into all of my life; not only when it's safe on the yoga mat. It's when we have the courage to put the rubber to the road in our daily lives, accessing the Spirit at the workplace, waiting in the airport or stuck in traffic that we can keep expanding into the joyful power of our Spirit! I am honored to review this free book from Hay House!

The Power of Your Spirit is a guide not just a book to inspire.
The book covers four main phases of a spiritual journey and the daily practices help the reader to travel through each.

The first phase is recognizing the Universe and the spirit you posses and connecting each through a daily practice.

Realization begins that the Universe is a never ending source of creative inspiration and how our lives are interconnected to help each other. This acknowledgement motivates us to become conscious to a living an authentic life.

The importance of mediation is discussed and helpful tips are suggested.
The daily practice of mediation and centering your breathing helps to relieve anxiety, fear and begins the participant on the road to relaxation and peacefulness for yourself and others.

The second stage expands to not only gaining more knowledge about yourself as an extension from the Creator but spiritual growth comes from applying experiences and the desire to discover other areas of the spiritual realm rather than depending totally on reading and classes.

The third stage is a submitting to the flow of the Universe and laying down trusting logic and your control. During this phase most stop living in the past and future but pay attention to the present and trust more in the Universe rather than being affected by what others think.

Practicing the daily lessons brings the reader to stage four where trust is built fully in the Universe and Divine inspiration becomes a reality. Inspirations to help others and live in peace rather than being motivated by fear brings a rich and spirit filled life.

I read this book twice. It was easy to understand and interesting which kept my attention and my desire to continue to read it.

The second time I read it was read in the way the book was intended to be read, as a guide.

It is thoughtfully written with helpful practices and tips blended with the authors, family and friends experiences in life which back up the points expressed in this book. Those searching for a book in which to expand in spirit would find this book enjoyable and helpful.

Does not seem to have a biblical foundation. Glad I only got the preview versus purchasing the book.

    Question

I question where she is coming from. Unless she is referring to the HOLY SPIRIT, there is no help from within ourselves unless we have been born again and have THE Spirit (of God) living within us. We were created to have relationship with our Heavenly Father and to call upon Him for help. I admire her desire to help others re-focus, but the focus is misdirected unless directed towards the Holy Spirit, not our own spirit.

I think that those who have been studying Intention for sometime will find this an interesting read that will churn up new inspiration.

This paragraph, from the afterward of the book, best summarizes what the author wishes the reader to take away: "Moving through the four stages of transformation as we come to embrace the authentic power of our Spirit is a dynamic and challenging process. Each phase demands our full attention, evokes our worst fears, challenges our limited beliefs, and demands relentless courage, as we're asked to grow in ways that aren't always comfortable or easy." This instructional guide is separated into four stages: Awakening your Spirit Discovering your Spirit Surrendering to your Spirit Flowing with your Spirit I've found this to be some of the easiest to understand and implement instruction on Intention that I've read. Each chapter has short stories representing experiences of others who have taken this journey to help make it easier to relate to the content. Other categories in each chapter include "Making the Shift" which explains the process one would need to go through; "Asking the Questions" which is a list of questions for the traveler to contemplate and a section "Daily Practice" to begin learning the discipline of Intention. This is a good guide for the novice, but I also think that those who have been studying Intention for sometime will find this an interesting read that will churn up new inspiration. In accordance with FTC guidelines I must disclose that I have received this book, for free, from Hay House, in exchange for writing reviews for Hay House's new book releases.

The Power of Your Spirit - A Guide to Joyful Living

Sonia Choquette has been one of my favorite authors for many years. I've always enjoyed her books and the title of this one, The Power of Your Spirit, got me curious especially when combined with the subtitle, "A Guide to Joyful Living." When the book arrived for me to review, I wondered if Sonia could have done it again? Would I enjoy reading her new book since I've read several books by her? The answers to these questions were "Yes!" and "Yes!" Sonia is a great storyteller and she weaves in stories that teach us from the examples of what lessons she or the people in the story learn from what has happened in their lives. She had me curious from the first two paragraphs of the introduction. In them she describes a movie (that I've seen) which is about a tour guide in Greece who has lost her kefi, which is a Greek word for "spirit." Sonia says, "The film reminded me that the idea of losing your connection to spirit isn't all that unusual." She goes on to say that she encounters many lovely, generous, and caring people who feel lost, disillusioned, and powerless. In this book, she guides readers through four stages she says we must pass through on the way to reconnecting with our own spirit. The four stages are: Awakening Discovery Surrender Flow For most of us the journey is gradual but she says it's also possible, though rare, to move through all four stages in one dramatic shift. In "How to Use this Book" Sonia says, "Take time and enjoy the process. Ponder the questions and stories throughout." She also says to be sure to implement the daily practices for at least 40 days. Throughout the book Sonia has questions for us to answer which are best written in a journal. She also says to invite your spirit -- your most authentic self -- to answer them. After answering the questions she guides you to close your eyes and to calmly breathe through your nose in a deep way that feels relaxed and wonderful. In fact, as she says, it can help you feel calm, connected to Source, peaceful, and energized all at the same time. She calls this "connected breathing" and it is a technique she explains in the book. I love how it makes me feel! Sonia suggests you do it for 15 minutes. It is a way of breathing that connects the breaths and connects you with your spirit. I've heard that the word inspire means to breathe in -- and it feels inspiring to breathe this way. Reading about "connected breathing" helped me to realize it's what I do -- and feel -- when I do my 15 minute meditation each morning. As Sonia says, using a timer allows you to relax. What I realized while reading this part of the book was how good it feels to do this "connected breathing" at other times during the day -- or night -- any time I notice my breathing has gotten shallow or that I'm feeling tense and find I'm holding my breath. The book ends with an inspiring list of choices we can make as part of our daily practice. Sonia suggests we write the list in our own handwriting on a beautiful piece of paper and read the things on the list out loud daily. Do I recommend this book? YES!

A Guide to a Powerful Spirit

"The Power of Your Spirit" is an important book on making a connection with your higher self (spirit). As Sonia mentions, this connection helps and nourishes regardless of outside circumstances. "The Power of Your Spirit" is written with the essence of an abundance of love, and is an empowering guide that helps increase the ability to be graceful, creative, and inspired even when events turn out differently than expected. I also enjoyed reading this book because it serves as a gentle reminder on why it is essential and healing for the soul to make a connection with the higher self (spirit daily). I am glad to have a book like this to remind me of the importance of connecting with your own spirit. I have noticed in my own life that my own intuition and creativity have been increasing more and more each day as a result of my conscious intent to connect with my spirit (higher self, soul). The following is some of the helpful details that Sonia Choquette includes in "The Power of Your Spirit"

    1) An innovative "Asking the Questions" journal idea that is on page 131.
    2) There are tips for keeping your spirit burning strong (such as physical movement and meditation)(pg. 144)
    3) There are certain questions to ask to assist in making the shift of increasing a personal connection with the spirit energy (higher self, soul) that is on page 89.

This book is a definite guide to add to a personal library for anyone who is aware and/or open to connecting their higher self (spirit, soul) and would like to have a guide to read and appy the ideas contained within for increasing a connection to the spirit (higher self, soul).

Living A Life Of Divine, Authentic Happiness & Truth

Sonia Choquette is one of today's most inspiring spiritual teachers. The Power of Your Spirit is an inspiring follow-up to her bestselling The Answer Is Simple. that demonstrates how to overcome the criticism of your ego-self, achieve your most passionate desires despite what others want from you, and open your heart to Divine love while welcoming your Spirit.

The Power of Your Spirit is broken down into four phases. First, as you awaken to your Spirit, you must connect with Spirit through a daily practice. This first phase involves acknowledging the Universe as the one source from hence we all came and seeing the Universe as our unending source of creative inspiration. Meditation and conscious attention to living an authentic life are critical, but most important is the practice of breathing deep controlled breaths to relieve anxiety and fear. This sets the appropriate environment within the body for Spirit to flow freely. During each phase of spiritual evolution, including the early stages, one can feel as if his or her life is falling apart, and Sonia provides sound strategies for dealing with these events.

In the second stage of welcoming Spirit, discovering your Spirit, Sonia explains a phase of gaining knowledge through reading, classes, and workshops. She suggests expanding your thoughts beyond what feels comfortable and learning about the many aspects of the spiritual realm. While encouraging this discovery phase, she also warns against using books as an escape and explains that one learns not through knowledge but through experience.

In the third stage, surrendering to your Spirit, Sonia suggests that you will slowly move beyond your ego and begin to trust in the mysterious Universe at large to provide. You will acknowledge that your ego cannot free you from fear or bring you peace and will expand beyond what feels natural and explore new interests. During this phase, one stops living in the past and the future and focuses on the present moment, concerned not about what other people want but the truth of what the Spirit wants.

In the last phase, flowing with your Spirit, one has learned to trust fully in the Universe. You will explain to the Universe exactly what you want and then accept the Divine inspiration to manifest those thoughts as your reality. You will find yourself inspired to help others and will live a life of compassion and peace.

Throughout The Power of Your Spirit, Sonia recalls stories from her own experiences and those of her family and clients. Each section includes opportunities to answer journal questions that will help you open to your Spirit and practice exercises that will bring you closer in touch with your Spirit. Sonia also recommends creating a personal spiritual altar, a portal through which your Spirit can enter.

The Power of Your Spirit is an outstanding course in becoming aware of and attuned to your Spirit to live an authentic and rewarding life that when practiced can impact your life in the most positive ways.
