Overview

It is the year 2018—a highly volatile nuclear world. Israel has obliterated the deep underground nuclear weapons facility built by Iran.  The United States has destroyed the nuclear facility of a defiant North Korea.

Against this background, the Russians have upped the stakes in the latest world power-play—cyber warfare—to reduce the United States to helplessness: a three-strike missile attack on the National Security Agency at Fort Mead, Maryland, while simultaneously jamming the top-secret electronic access key to America’s nuclear launch system—the nuclear football. If successful, Russia would blow the United States off the nuclear map.

Meanwhile the British Royal Navy, formerly the most powerful in the world, is rapidly crumbling, leaving the United States without its main deep sea ally at a time when they’re needed most.

As this geo-political battle comes to light behind close doors dealings and dark secrets, it is up to Mossad spymaster, codenamed the ‘Golan,’ to avert the Russian scheme, and there is only one man he in turn can trust to get the job done: US Navy Seal Mack Bedford.

It is now up to Mack Bedford, the hero previously encountered in

The Delta Solution

,

Intercept

, and

Diamondhead

, to devise a plan to stop the Russians before they and their cyber weaponry reach the Chinese border—the launch site of their master plan. And with the entire country’s fate in his hands, Mack and his hard-trained, one of a kind SEAL Team 10 must not, cannot fail.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Last seen in 2009’s Diamondhead, Capt. Mackenzie “Mack” Bedford must thwart a Russian attempt to blow up the National Security Agency’s Maryland headquarters with nuclear missiles in this unconvincing military thriller set in 2018. Russian president Nikita Markova, a 74-year-old Stalinist nostalgic for the old Soviet Union, also plans to disable the U.S. president’s always handy “nuclear football” so the Americans can’t retaliate. To the rescue come Mack and his hardy SEAL Team 10 out of San Diego, which is tasked with intercepting and sinking a huge Russian freighter and its nuclear cargo in the North Atlantic before it can deliver the missiles to a Central American launch site. Robinson has never lacked in devising the skeleton for exciting plots, but his execution remains uninspired and mechanical. Stilted dialogue and an overall jingoistic tone may cause some readers to wince. Worse, his long, undisciplined commentary on historical events and military minutiae interfere at many of the most crucial points. (Nov.)

Once again Robinson writes an extremely detailed exploit of the SEALS. Not as much a submarine book as before but still a very good book. I always enjoy the details he uses, almost makes you think you were aboard with Mack and the crew. Highly recommend and anxiously awaiting another book by Robinson.

Robinson books are some of my favorite. I give this rating because I like his style and I keep coming back for more. However, this plot was too perfect. Nothing went wrong...something always goes wrong. I was waiting for them to be almost outsmarted near the end by the Russians, but they weren't. The Russians went on with their plan despite being compromised without any substantial changes. The US plan to intervene when flawlessly. Great for a real operation....not so much for a dramatic fiction piece.

I am a huge fan of the previous books. This book doesnt match up. Doesnt even seem written by the same author. The book was completely boring and full of useless facts and redundant. The last 30 to 40 pages are the only ones that give us the seal action that we are use to. I have never written a rewiew before but this book is so horrible i felt i had to.
