Meet the Author

Raymond Buckland has been actively involved in metaphysics and the occult for fifty years and has writing about it for nearly thirty.

He is the author of more than sixty books, including such best-selling titles as Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, Gypsy Dream Dictionary, Practical Candleburning Rituals, and Witchcraft from the Inside. Ray has lectured and presented workshops across the United States, and has appeared on major television and radio shows nationally and internationally. He has also written screen plays, been a technical advisor for films, and appeared in films and videos.

Ray comes from an English Romany (Gypsy) family and presently resides, with his wife Tara, on a small farm in central Ohio. Beyond writing, Ray's other passion is homebuilt airplanes.

Read an Excerpt

Ray Buckland has been actively involved in the occult for over fifty years and was responsible for introducing Gardnerian Wicca to the United States. He has written over two dozen books; has had numerous articles published in magazines and newspapers; has appeared on many TV shows; and has worked as a technical advisor on movies and stage productions. I am very lucky to know Ray, and the metaphysical world should be thankful that he shares his learning with us.
Practical Candleburning Rituals is one of his most popular books, and rightly so. Hundreds of thousands of people use it as a guide to simple, practical, powerful, and usable magic on a daily basis. There are three reasons you should use this book, too.
First, if you have never done any sort of magic before, this book is an ideal introduction to the subject from a practical point of view.
Second, although many people are involved in Pagan religions, many others are involved in Christianity. Most of the rituals in this book are presented in two ways, one for Pagans and one for Christians. This book can really be used by just about anyone.
Third, by practicing the techniques in this book, you'll learn the underpinnings of magic. In no time you'll be able to come up with your own rituals based on the ones listed.
When you can design your own rituals, and be successful with them, you will truly be a magician. And the place to start is with this book.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

Good book for information on some candle rituals.

A little side note for everyone to know, this book contains some really good rituals in it but, it does have a repeat of some of the rituals for people who may be of Christian religion and uses quotes from the Bible as the activating spell you have to say out lowed. This doesn't matter to me, I think it's a great idea that the author is not being one sided, but some may complain about it. Anyways with that said this book shows you what color candles you need to do the rituals, proper set up and guide lines of lighting the candles in the proper order. It also shows if any movement of the candles is needed and what direction to move them in and what to say as you are performing the ritual. This book does have some rather odd rituals in it that does seem to go against the Wicca belief of not manipulating someone to personally gain from it, but if you are a Wiccan you know that's a no-no so don't do it, just remember "an ye harm none, do as ye will". Other than that it is a good book to have in your library.

Depends on what you are looking for

A lot of the spells and rituals in this book are not that of most 'Wiccans' HOWEVER , as a practicing Druid for many years some of the rituals are interesting and give a different perspective on similar concepts. Again, most of the spells in this book are for the people who have no clue and just want something done fast, and their way, without regard to the natural order of things. If you need or want something desperately, consider everything, good and bad, before you perform any ritual in this book.

    Not found

I bought this book under recemdenation of somebody. I never used any of the rituals because they didn't make me feel conferable. I got a dark feeling around them that made me put this book away. It has a 'Christian way' and a 'Wiccan' way of doing things, although I didn't find any of them 'Christian or very Wiccan' (espeically at the end when they mentioned cures or hexes...I don't remember excatly)

    bad bad bad

i have been a wiccan for quite a while and a friend bought this book for me. if you are a true wiccan and believe in not manipualting a persons free will, then buy a different book. if you really want this book then be prepared to ripe out some pages that contain some things that a true wiccan would never do.
