This grammar is based upon simple rules which are explained from the point of view of ordinary speech. The language employed is free from heavy technicalities, and grammar itself is arranged in a succession of inter-dependent chapters, each accompanied by exercises in Hebrew - English and English - Hebrew. Vocabularies and tables are also included, and irregular verbs are rationalized philologically. The grammar has been planned to introduce the student as quickly as possible to a working knowledge of Classical Hebrew.

The first edition was published in 1939. This second edition repairs small omissions of reference and includes other corrections of a fairly minor kind.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"With all the Hebrew grammars out there this one is still the essential. Not only is it a fine teaching tool, it is the best reference grammar for both the student and minister who employs Hebrew studies in his biblical considerations."—Randall Pannell, Regent University

"At our seminary, we have been constantly using this excellent textbook."—Paul Y. Tashiro, Wesley Biblical Seminary

"Best explanations on the market for Biblical grammar. Realistic amount of difficulty of exercises."—Joseph Knight, University of North Carolina-Asheville

"The most distinguished and excellent of the traditional introductions to classical Hebrew. Based on sound linguistic and didactic principle, it will be the most important of the grammars of its kind for many years to come."—Fred Horton, Wake Forest University

"The standard by which all other Hebrew texts are judged."—Joel Heck, Concordia College of Wisconsin

This book was absolutely a joy to work with. I already was fluent in modern hebrew before I started this book, but I had never learned really why things were a certain way, I just had to memorize them. This book is a lot better than 'Biblical Hebrew: A Text and Workbook' by Kittel, Hoffer and Wright, because it slowly eases you into the language, giving you the basics first, while Kittel's book pounds you with huge amounts of grammatical rules at the very beginning. This is also better than Kittel's book because it tells you the actual biblical pronunciation of the letters and vowels, Kittel's book gives you the modern hebrew equivalents. <P> Also, the exercises in this book do not only review new material, but include lots of old material so you won't forget it. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN BIBLICAL (CLASSICAL) HEBREW THIS IS THE BOOK TO BUY!
