Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer:Samir N. Patel, M.D.(Ochsner Clinic Foundation)
Description:This concise, practical guide of interventional cardiology provides expert advice for performing complex interventional procedures. This book updates the second edition published in 2003.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide expert advice for performing interventional cardiovascular procedures. The editors have enlisted experienced interventional cardiologists to provide practical tips to address the various scenarios that may occur in the catheterization laboratory. Rather than reciting evidence from clinical trials, this book describes real-life scenarios and provides suggestions on how to handle them, while emphasizing that several approaches may be appropriate for a specific problem.
Audience:The book is written for trainees in interventional cardiology as well as operators at all levels of experience.
Features:Basic topics such as obtaining vascular access and optimizing angiographic views, to more complex topics such as interventions on left main and bifurcation lesions are covered. Peripheral vascular procedures, such as carotid, subclavian, renal, and iliac artery interventions, and valvular interventions, such as mitral and aortic valvuloplasty are included. The book approaches each topic the same way, incorporating strategic mapping, tactical moves, and caveats. The presentation is concise, yet thorough.
Assessment:This book will be useful for those involved in performing interventional cardiovascular procedures because it compiles advice from multiple experts and addresses practical problems. Due to frequent innovations in thisfield, a third edition is justified.
