Meet the Author

Dr. Sunwolf has been fascinated with juries and their strange customs since her first jury trial in 1975. She is a veteran of many roles within the American justice system including civil litigation attorney, law school clinical education faculty, Training Director for Colorado’s Public Defender System, and trial consultant. During a death penalty trial, she had an epiphany about what really matters to jurors, which led her to return to graduate school, where she completed both a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Interpersonal and Group Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Sunwolf is now an Associate Professor of Communication at Santa Clara University, California.

An active trial consultant and media trial-analyst, she serves on trial advocacy faculties nationally and teaches at continuing education programs throughout the country. An expert on jury deliberations and social persuasion, her award-winning research examines the dynamics of what really happens inside jury rooms. Professor Sunwolf is also a performing storyteller, with corresponding research investigating the pedagogical and persuasive effects of multicultural tales.

    Talking With Jurors

I have seen Sunwolf lecture many times and always come away inspired and much, much better prepared to relate my client's story in trial. Practical Jury Dynamics takes her work a level higher by giving deeper insight into how jurors of diverse mindsets relate to each other and how to prepare your best jurors to plead your case persuasively in the deliberation room. If you follow her guidelines, you will find yourself anticipating how jurors react to ideas, facts and stories and helping them reason and persuade the way you want them to do.
