Description: This publication conveys the science of nuclear medicine in its entirety, providing an excellent review of instrumentation, quality assurance, radiation protection, radiopharmacy, and clinical imaging and non-imaging. The previous edition was published seven years ago.
Purpose: The foreword, written by Martin P. Sandler, suggests that the authors, because of significant changes in nuclear medicine (examples; PET/CT, SPECT/CT, monoclonal, peptides, etc.) wanted to offer an easy accessible guide to new wave and reviewable clinical techniques, as well as the science of nuclear medicine. This book will be well received as a reference in many nuclear medicine laboratories.
Audience: This book is written for nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, nuclear medicine technologists, nuclear medicine residents, and radiology residents. It will also be an excellent reference for the layman who wants a generic review of the science of nuclear medicine and PET. The authors are experts in the field.
Features: The authors take a general textbook approach to nuclear medicine technology and clinical procedures. The book is easy to read and review with most subjects divided into subsections of only a few paragraphs in length. Outstanding illustrations and graphs add to a fun learning experience.
Assessment: This third edition is well justified because of the enormous number of advances in the science of clinical nuclear medicine since the second edition was published. The book will be a valuable addition to the library of nuclear medicine laboratories and as a reference for nuclear medicine technologists and residents (nuclear medicine and radiology) preparing for their boards. This book succinctly covers all procedures and is an easy read compared to most nuclear medicine textbooks.
