    great book in paperback

I would not recommend this book as a nook read. Not all of the text is adjustable and as a result it is difficult to read on a tablet and impossible to read on the phone. I have the paperback version and I love it. We use it in the Spanish class I am taking, but as an add-on study guide ... I would rule the nook version out.

    Like a lightbulb turning on....

An absolute book to have. It was like a lightbulb moment. The way it was presented was so understanding.

Content good, but one star deduction for Nook version

This is supposedly the "enhanced" version, but one star off for LACKING the following enhanced functionality:
    - you cannot zoom on the "vocabulario" sections, which are a smaller font than surrounding text. Changing font size does not apply to those sections.
    - the green buttons which are allegedly there to take you to the answer for a given exercise and then back again to the exercise, those do not work at all. Its a pain in the butt, to put it politely.

On the other hand, there are exercises which include an audio answer, and those answers are accessible immediately beneath the exercise.

So, while I would have taken 2 stars away for the two complaints, I'll give one star back for the audio answers.

This was the book that taught me Spanish.  I worked through it cover-to-cover, doing all the exercises and correcting them using the answers in the back of the book.  Her glossary is also particularly useful; as you work through the book you'll be learning the most frequently-used Spanish words (not just verbs).
Despite the title, this is an excellent choice for a primary text.  It certainly contains far more information than most high school textbooks that claim to be comprehensive.
One of DDR's strong points is her explanations.  She summarizes complicated rules understandably, groups irregular verbs in a way that gives them a semblance of reason, and  in general organizes material in a way conducive to comprehension and retention.
I wish more texts were written this well.
