Description: This book presents the full range of vascular and nonvascular image-guided interventional procedures, along with a comprehensive discussion of basic interventional techniques, disease pathogenesis, relevant imaging studies, specific interventional techniques, and the relative merits of various treatment modalities.
Purpose: As stated in the preface, the purpose is to present the entire spectrum of vascular and nonvascular image-guided interventional procedures in a rigorous but practical, concise, and balanced fashion. The discussion is presented with a focus on disease pathogenesis, relevant imaging studies, and relative merits of different treatment modalities and expected outcomes for specific interventional techniques.
Audience: The book is written mainly for trainees in radiology. Interventional radiology fellows should find all of the material of value. Radiology residents are expected to understand the nature and indications of these procedures. For faculty members and other interventionalists in practice, this book should serve as a comprehensive review of the current status of the field and as a valuable reference.
Features: A discussion of basic principles, including fundamentals of patient care and basic interventional techniques, begins the book. Subsequent sections cover each of the major vascular beds, various vascular and nonvascular interventional procedures, including neurointerventional procedures, GI and GU interventional procedures, and those of interventional oncology. The images and illustrations are excellent, and the references are particularly up to date and relevant. An addition to the book is a website that includes over 100 unknown case studies. These clinical cases and procedures are distinct from those in the text, and the modules are interactive.
Assessment: This is a superb resource for trainees in interventional radiology. Interventional fellows should find this full of valuable information, while radiology residents will be able to appreciate the nature of these procedures as well as their indications. Faculty members and interventional radiologists in practice should find this a valuable reference. While this is not officially a new edition, it is based on a similar book previously written by the author that was published in 2006 (Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2nd edition). This book has been significantly updated with new illustrations and references.
