Overview

"A powerful prayer life is available to everyone, "claims author, mother of ten (eight adopted) children. "At age 24 1 suddenly found myself deep in the jungles of Brazil, the mother of eight children (whose ages ranged from not-quite-two up to nine). But the really hard part was being married to an abusive, unfaithful missionary husband," explains Ms. Sand when describing what made her turn to prayer. "None of my academic training or experience in the church prepared me to face the rigors of jungle living under these adverse circumstances. We had no electricity for eleven of the 1 5 years I lived in Brazil raising my family. The missionary community was either in denial about what was happening or implied that I deserved the abuse." Discovering that God was willing to answer prayers began Ms. Sand on a wonderful odyssey of learning to trust God for the smallest details of her life in bringing up her family. In her book, Prayers of Faith: On Learning to Trust God, she points out the basic principles of prayer that anyone can use to develop a bold relationship with the Creator of the Universe.
This anecdotal book is a "treasure ... for any who wish to develop the art of prayerfulness," agrees retreat director Sister Carmel Noone, RSC. She points out that the book is "crystal clear in its invitation to grow in compassion, forgiveness and justice," adding, "Watch out! This book could change the direction of your life." Margie Smith of the Hawaiian Island Ministries remarks, "At last, a contemporary book on prayer that pulses with power and life. This conceptually rich and thoughtful examination of prayer also sweeps us along on a fascinating personal saga that engages the heart as well as the mind."

Editorial Reviews

Patricia J. Wagner
God is not a miser. You do not have to be deserving to have your prayers answered. God is merciful. Also, the Supreme Being is not above making sure you have the extra $8.28 to pay for an unexpected bus ticket. And God will give you what you asked for, even if it isn't exactly what you wanted; so be precise. The author, with humble good humor, describes her path to discovering the practical power of prayer and inspires the reader to do the same. Without sanctimonious lectures or psychodrivel,
David McElrath
"Faith Sand has chronicled her adventure in prayer in a compassionate and entertaining manner that challenges even the most skeptical to reevaluate. If you cannot believe God answers your prayers, then vicariously enjoy the answered Prayers of Faith,"
Sister Carmel Noone
This treasure of a book is for any who wish to develop the art of prayerfulness. In an engaging style the author shares her heart's journey through joy and pain and witnesses to the Lord's empowerment of those who trust in God.
