Overview

New York Times bestselling author Carl Weber has won over readers and critics alike with his smart, sexy, page-turning tales of family drama. Now he delivers his most powerful novel yet—an explosive story about an esteemed church family with a whole lot of repenting to do. . .

Bishop T.K. Wilson, popular pastor of the largest African American church in Queens, New York, has decided to run for borough president. But his family values platform is on shaky ground. In public, his wife and two children are a shining example of respectability. Yet privately, the Wilson kids are giving in to the same temptations as any other young adults. And their parents have no idea what's going on behind closed doors—including the closed doors of the church offices.

As the bishop's son, Dante Wilson is treated like royalty, and his good looks cause the congregation's young women to think—and act on—some very impure thoughts. Personable and smart, he's expected to assume his father's position one day. The problem is, Dante wants to be a lawyer, and that's not the only secret he's keeping. He's also met the woman of his dreams—who happens to be his parents' worst nightmare. But Dante isn't the only one who's about to test his parents' faith. . .

Dante's younger sister, Donna, is as sweet as they come, yet she isn't exactly the virginal princess her beloved daddy thinks she is. And thanks to her suspicious, ambitious, not to mention meddling, mother, he's about to find that out—and more. To add insult to injury, Donna's transgressions involve another man of God. And that's only the beginning.

Just as the Pandora's box of unwelcome surprises seems empty, it turns out that even Bishop Wilson has some skeletons in his closet—the kind that could cost him everything. Now all the Wilsons will have to face their demons. . .and discover what family values are really about.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A pillar of the community runs for local office on a family values platform and is undone by those in his household in Weber's (Player Haters, etc.) entertaining novel. Bishop T.K. Wilson, head of the largest African-American church in Queens, N.Y., enters the race for borough president. He is a formidable candidate with an unmatched record of good works in the community, and he has the support of his devoted wife, Charlene, and their two children: Dante, a recent college graduate; and popular 20-year-old Donna. Trouble rears its head when Donna's secret affair with Terrance Reynolds, her father's protege, takes an ugly turn; meanwhile, Dante's budding relationship with Tanisha Jones, a girl from the projects who struggles to care for her crack addict mother and 12-year-old brother, rubs Charlene the wrong way. Everyone is keeping secrets, but the most devastating one-involving the troubled pasts of Charlene and the bishop himself-is revealed as the election approaches and the bishop's leadership of the church is threatened. Using rotating narrators to provide close-up accounts of events as they occur, Weber spins a lively, revelation-packed tale deepened by genuine emotion, convincing detail and smart dialogue. A Good Book

I think that the book is a good book for teens and older people. It keeps you going. Some of his books have real life situations. I read the book in three days. If you havent read the book I recommend that you read it because it is a really good book. If you are a person who like's drama, then this is a good book to read. All of his books are good they keep you wondering whats going to happen next. When I first saw the book I thought that it was going to be bored but it wasn't. So if you are going to read it dont judge it by its cover.

    The Preacher's Son

This book was really good. It's the type of book where u just want to see the family prevail and work through all their problems. I read it in 2 days. So interesting. I was very satisfied with the end. I'm about to read Married Men next then hopefully buy "The First Lady" afterward. I like this author. So far he seems realistic.

    A GREAT READ!!!!!!

This book had me at the beginning of the book. It shows you that everything is not at all what it seems to be. I loved the way that the Bishop wife came to his rescue in the end. At first I wasn't liking her at all, but by the end I had mad respect for her. I just fell in love with Shorty and Dantae. You want find to many men out here like them.
