Barnes & Noble - David McGee
It's not as momentous as the record Elvis Presley wanted to make for his mother in 1954, but the disc Alan Jackson recorded as a Christmas present for his mom turns out to be one of his finest moments. Here Jackson parlays his personable tenor and deep religious conviction into a 15-song revival service that is at once intimate, unassuming, and moving. Backed only by acoustic guitar, piano, and organ, with a smattering of background vocals his wife and daughter join him on "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus", Jackson respectfully offers moving testimony on some landmark Baptist hymns, including: "Blessed Assurance"; the comforting hymn of invitation "Softly and Tenderly"; ...

Here Jackson parlays his personable tenor and deep religious conviction into a 15-song revival service that is at once intimate, unassuming, and moving. Backed only by acoustic guitar, piano, and organ, with a smattering of background vocals his wife and daughter join him on "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus", Jackson respectfully offers moving testimony on some landmark Baptist hymns, including: "Blessed Assurance"; the comforting hymn of invitation "Softly and Tenderly"; a spirited, acoustic guitar–driven rendition of the evergreen "I'll Fly Away"; and an emotional reading of "The Old Rugged Cross" that is as commanding in its low-key way as was Tennessee Ernie Ford's awesome, stentorian reading of nearly 50 years ago. Not the least of the treasures is a version of the oft-recorded "How Great Thou Art," heard regularly in country churches across the land -- with only a piano, lead voice, and backup singers, straightforward and stripped of bombast, its unambiguous message of devotion is made doubly potent in its stark rendering here. Tennessee Ernie's Sings 22 Favorite Hymns album, released in 1956, stayed on the Album Chart for 277 consecutive weeks. Precious Memories is unlikely to enjoy such a run, but no one who likes Alan Jackson will ever forget it.

    A great album!

This a great album with gospel truths. It has redeeming value, because of the truths sung about in each song. These truths transend time for us who believe in Jesus as our Lord. Many of these songs were sang in church by my family when we were growing up. For me it has tremendous moving wonderful memories of my grandfather, mom, & aunts singing specials of these songs in church. I think it is an awesome album!!!

    I was moved

While not much of an Alan Jackson fan in the country music arena, I definitely enjoyed listening to the clips and bought the CD. I was not disappointed as these songs are performed nicely. They bring you closer to the Lord as you sing along with Alan.

If I had it to do over, I would have purchsed this sooner!

    Beautiful and inspirational

My whole family loves this CD. It sure brings back memories as the title says. The only criticism we have is it needs to be twice as long. Leaves you wanting more.

    Precious Memories

I love the tradtional Hymns Alan Jackson choose for this CD. These are beautiful old Hymns that I rememeber my parents loved. The choices made of Hymns, makes this Indeed a "Masterpiece" for Jackson. These Hymns, most churches in the south and anywhere can identify with. It's very uplifting . a gift to Alan's family and all of us who love these beautiful old hymns.

    country go to church

I love Alan jackson, but this was not what I expected. I was so excited to see he had a new CD out, I rushed out to buy it. this is a religious CD...every song!! Fine if that is what you are looking for, but not what I expected or wanted. His voice is beautiful, but not riding in the car with the top down songs.

lOVE EVERY SONG IN IT. TAKES ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD DAYS IN ARK. HIS VOICE IS ATTUNED TO EACH HYMN. WHAT MOTHER WOULDN'T LOVE THIS FOR A GIFT? I RANK IT NEXT TO ELIVS' HYMNS IT'S THAT GOOD.
