Overview

Joss Kyle is a one-time National Security Advisor who barely escaped Washington D.C. with his skin intact. For three years he's lived by his wits and the fall of the cards in the criminal underworld of South America, but jumping planet for Space Station Sidon means walking into a ambush more dangerous than any he's yet faced:
A man named Alex Hart wants to play cards with him.

Their meeting will fling Joss into a game playing for highest stakes around: control of the entire solar system. Chased by a revolutionary leader, agents of a corrupt senator, and an underworld boss known only as The Green Lady, he quickly discovers that in the looking-glass world above the gravity well, survival, like poker, is just another sport. And in this contest, it isn't whether you win or lose, it's how you rig the game.

Meet the Author

J. Daniel Sawyer is a hat-wearing, obsessive-compulsive nutcase attempting to write his way out of the loony bin. He's the author of numerous novels including The Clarke Lantham Mysteries, Down From Ten, and The Antithesis Progression (which earned him a spot as a 2009 Parsec Finalist). Lacking in personal qualities things that make for respectable character (such as the ability to sit still and shut up), he's forced to channel his lack of decorum into adventures in photography, a/v production, and an unhealthy obsession with machines that go very, very fast.

When not getting into other mischief, he can be heard hosting the skeptical salon The Polyschizmatic Reprobates Hour, and as the host and narrator of an array of a variety of full-cast audiobooks, all available through http://www.jdsawyer.net.

A intense ride of intrigue and action.

I'm not one to leave reviews very often, but this book deserves the praise. J. Daniel Sawyer weaves a twisted tail of intrigue, suspense, and bursts of action. The characters are very well developed and the author has a real talent for making them feel very real. I originally discovered the story when the author performed as a podcast. It keep me on the edge of my seat and it is only the first book of the series. If you want a very good read, you will not go wrong with this book.
