Overview

You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.

The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ‘ol Leif isn’t your average teenage boy. He isn’t even human. According to Death, Leif doesn’t have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but he’s still showing up in Pagan’s dreams... uninvited.

Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasn’t human. But he hadn’t worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagan’s soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagan’s soul won’t be easy but Pagan is his. And he’s already proven he’ll defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.

Predestined is the amazing follow up to Existence. It starts (sort of) were we stopped in Existence... to the knowledge that Leif is not exactly human. Okay, he’s not human. Period.

So what is he? We learn the answer to this question pretty early in the book. As a matter of fact, we learn the answer to this question in the prologue. So you don’t have to go on suffering for long, if that was what was keeping you from reading this book, like in my case. I’m a bit of a chicken sometimes. Why yes, I admit it.

So, Leif has no soul, but he’s after one. He’s after Pagan’s soul. Because he owns it. I know right? Who does he think he is, going around claiming her soul belongs to him, huh? As if I needed another reason to dislike him. Leif is no longer the sweet, lovesick teenage boy we met in Existence, he’s actually a little bit more… forward, maybe? He’s conceited, alright! And a hundred times more annoying. Or at least, that’s how I saw him, that’s how I wanted to see him. Because I don’t like him.

    Am I clear? Good.

Moving on now. In Predestined we follow Pagan through the list of hard decision she has to make in order to save the ones she loves, (view spoiler) Her character goes through some growing up, I would say. I liked her a bit more than I did in Existence she wasn’t that childish –and sometimes annoying –girl. She’s forced to face some truths that are bound to make you see things through different eyes. She experiences lose and betrayal, she learns to cope and to accept. She learns to let go. She becomes stronger.

Dank. Dank, oh Dank! I can’t tell you how in love I am with him this character. He is some serious hunk, we all know that, but he’s also incredibly sweet, and amazing, and perfect. He’s perfect. His protectiveness towards Pagan just killed me. It killed me! I can’t even begin to explain what this did to me. And when he’s angry or jealous… incredibly sexy, that’s what he is. *fans self*

Let me just move forward now, before I can’t form a single rational sentence. It’s Gee’s turn. Gee is epic. She is effing epic. I love her to death, no pun intended. She’s seriously hilarious! Never fails to make me smile. Even when we’re in critical points in the book, and everyone was freaking out (including me) she says something witty and funny and I feel lighter, if only for a second. She’s my favorite character –not counting Dank here –honestly. But Gee is not just a flow of curse words and funny remarks; she’s just as fiercely protective of Pagan as Dank. And that just made my heart warmer.

Predestined was pretty amazing. It’s full of twists, and I do mean full of them. It will keep you at the edge of your seat at times, and pulling out your hair at others. I was seriously freaking out more than once. Abbi sure does know how to play with my emotions. I was a mess all through reading Predestined. I was scared for Pagan and the decisions she would have to make, and what they would mean to her relationship with Dank. I was swooning over Dank every time he sang to her. Hell! I was swooning every time he spoke! And I was fanning myself every time they kissed.

Predestined had me aww’ing and laughing. It had me creeped out and freaking out. It had me tearing up and praying for September to get here already. For those of you cliffie-scared like me, let me assure you there’ not too much of a cliffhanger in this one, so rest assured you’ll live through it. It’s going to be a long wait for Ceaseless, nonetheless.

Predestined starts where Existence left off. Finally Pagan and Dank can be together, but they soon find out that darker forces have a stake on Pagan’s soul. Pagan’s world is turned upside down with all the secrets and sacrifices that have been made so that she could live a normal healthy life. Will Pagan make the ultimate sacrifice to save those she loves? Will Dank move heaven and earth to be with Pagan…?

The chemistry between Pagan and Dank gets more intense. These star-crossed lovers will defy all odds to be together, no matter what. Abbi Glines has created a world that draws you in from the very first page. You are captivated by the characters and the mythology surrounding Dank’s existence. A truly swoon worthy tale that keeps you laughing, crying, sighing, cursing, and fighting right along side of Pagan, Dank, and all the other characters that have earned a place in the reader’s heart!

AMAZING.AMAZING.AMAZING. I loved the second edition of the Existence Trilogy, Predestined. This book was full of so much energy and wit, I couldn't get enough. Dank. AH! Hot. I loved the his sense of humor and possessiveness when it came to Pagan. I was a little surprised with the Leif situation and how he let her go so easily. I'm so happy about Wyatt. I can't wait for the third book, Ceaseless.

Abbi Glines never ceases to amaze me. I love her writing, the humor and romantic details. I am fascinated with her books, she's an amazing author. I recommend ALL of her books. Abbi Glines <3

    Great sequel!

‘Different countries, continents, causes all flashed before me as I snatched souls from bodies.
Death happened often. It was a dark void I’d once walked with no joy. Then Pagan had entered my world
and she’d made everything right. She’d made the emptiness leave and given me a reason to exist.’ Dankmar

There were lots of interesting elements to this sequel that I really enjoyed. None of which I can talk about without spoilers really.

    *********************ALERT: SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!*******************

Pagan and Dankmar could only kiss on the lips for a short time before her soul would try to release itself to Death. But they could kiss other areas and still keep it sexy!

I thought it was so cool that Miranda and Wyatt were true soul mates and that they had already found each other in several previous incarnations.

I loved finding out more about Death’s job.

I liked learning who Pagan’s earth soul mate was. And I loved the note that Dankmar wrote to scare her ex-boyfriend-earth-soul-mate off.
It was so territorial and yet oh so funny!

Death outwits Leif’s father, Ghede and rescues Pagan from the voodoo underworld, a delicious fist bump moment of victory against evil!

I loved that Pagan and Dankmar could indulge and have stress free kissing which then led to the multiple make out sessions in the storage closet at her prom.

‘Pressing her soft chest against mine caused a shiver to run through me and a low growl began in my chest. Why wasn’t her soul releasing yet?
I couldn’t keep this up or I’d completely lose all train of thought.’ Dankmar

I loved the humor interjected all throughout like the pancake-my-alarm-failed-to-wake-me-up-with-kisses scene between Dankmar, Pagan and her mom. That was just too adorable!

And aw! Wyatt’s soul came back like super fast as a college buddy of Jay’s, yay!

Up next in this cool paranormal series is Leif (Existence #2.5). His novella has his POV of events that took place in Existence and Predestined and gives us a clue to his final destiny.

    4.5 stars

This review is going to be short for two reasons. One, I don’t feel like I can discuss a single thing about this book without giving something away. You really have to read book one before you can even read this review and even then I’m not going to discuss too much because I don’t want to give spoilers for this book.

My favorite thing about this book that I can share is we get Dank’s point of view!! Dank’s still a dumb name, but I loved being in his head for a while. He’s just so devoted and in love with Pagan.

I was a little worried to how everything would work out with how we left book one, but I’m glad that Glines was able to work a believable hitch in there for us. And I’m going to confess I actually feel a little bad for Leif (just a bit). He really was trying and he really has been there for Pagan. Maybe it’s just my ability to fall for the bad boys, but I’m hoping he gets a happily ever after at some point.

In the end my only complaints for Predestined are the same as they were in the last review. The writing is more juvenile (it’s YA) and the editing isn’t great, not on par to other Abbi Glines books I’ve read. But yet, for some reason I just love them. I like the whole idea of falling in love with Death (and Death being a person). I am definitely going to look for this story line again in the future.

    Not good

Ops, I did it again - purchased all 3.5 books and had to read them. Good idea, immature, poor writing. Characters are not fully developed. Do not not expect "Joe Black" there. Bad read even for vacation. I love to read, occasionally I read paranormal romance (no true violence or sex), here are some of my favorites: The Premonition Series (well written, a lot of action - seriously enough for 10 books), Beautiful Creatures nicely written, Vampire Diaries...of course Twilight. But if you want a GREAT read, try Consuelo (3 books) by George Sand and La Comtesse de Rudolstadt a sequel to Consuelo if you can find it
