Overview

The changes a man goes through during

The nine months his mate is pregnant.

We hear time and time again about changes a woman experiences during pregnancy. But what about the man? Doesn't his life change too?

PregMANcy is an honest, raw, and humorous memoir looking at the changes author Christian Piatt experiences with his wife and their young son when they learn they're expecting their second child, the unplanned result of a Chianti-fueled date night. Containing stories and unscripted (and surprising) insights from their son as the new baby sister's birth approaches, PregMANcy takes you on the wild ride of parenthood and shows it's not always easier the second time around.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Raising children is not easy, so moms and dads need to find a way to laugh at their chaotic lives in order to remain sane. Fortunately, Piatt (Banned Questions About the Bible), a popular author and commentator on contemporary Christianity, has mastered the art of self-deprecating parent humor. Facing their second pregnancy, the author and his wife begin to adjust their lives to welcome a sibling for their toddler son, whose energy wears them out almost daily. While serious about his faith, Piatt is refreshingly irreverent and never attempts to candy-coat the gritty and authentic aspects of life, from sex to arguments with one's spouse to changing diapers and cleaning up vomit. This is not only a memoir of pregnancy, but it is also a splendid guide for parents who may feel at times that their life challenges are insurmountable. The spiritual discourse flows naturally—nothing is forced or artificial. Piatt offers a gracious service by recounting how he and his wife mange to stay somewhat grounded while taking the crazy leap into parenthood for the second time. Regardless of faith background, novice and veteran parents alike will find consolation and a lot of laughs. (Apr.)

    It’s not just for guys…
This book is laugh-out-loud funny, grab-a-tissue touching, and make-you-think deep, sometimes by turns, and sometimes all at the same time. It’s open and honest and sometimes so candid you’ll want to say Oh, TMI! But you won’t, because you’ll want to keep reading. And ladies, there are moments of sweet revenge, like the chapter about Christian’s vasectomy. It will feel like a settling of the score for the indignities you’ve suffered on the OB/GYN table. Great read, Christian. Looking forward to the next one.

This should be required reading for every new mom and dad - and

This should be required reading for every new mom and dad - and returning for the performance parent - on your list. Is it enough to say I love this book? I laughed, I cried, I found myself going back to the days before my second son was born and his dad wasn't so sure he wanted another child. There are so many moments in this book that made me smile. The best part is that Piatt's son tells a story too. This little boy is so funny and you're left feeling like you've been holding the video camera the entire time. There are a few sneaky bad words that sort of made me feel like less of a hypocrite. Honest, sweet, a little gritty - love it!
