Preparing My Heart for Adventby Ann Marie Stewart
Preparing My Heart for Advent challenges women to immerse themselves in Scriptures during the months of November and December so that they are more likely to keep Christ in Christmas rather than becoming entangled by obligations and commercialism. It accomplishes its purpose with a two-fold thrust, serving as both a seasonal Bible study and devotional. Each day of the November studies corresponds to a December devotional reading on the same topic. For example, readers will study
Joseph on November 10th only to refresh their learning on this topic with a devotional reading on December 10th.
Each week in the November Bible study portion offers refreshing thoughts for meditation and refl ection. Spiritual signifi cance is offered for common Christmas imagery, and the historical background of familiar carols is explained in detail. Suggestions are given for reaching out to others during the season of giving.
The December devotionals aim to keep readers in the Word of God during the busiest season of the year, celebrating and reflecting in a way that reinforces their studies in November.
In the author's words, Preparing My Heart for Advent will encourage readers to "stop, look, listen, and experience Immanuel-God with us-
wherever we are. Put on a familiar carol, pour a cup of peppermint tea,
and settle into a refl ective look at a birth unlike any other!

I strongly recommend this book. We have over 25 women from diverse denominations in our Bible Study. We've laughed and cried as we've shared and dug deep into both the Old and New Testament. What a blessing to go into the Christmas Season with a clear focus on Jesus.
Years of hearing the Christmas story may cause one to become so familiar with it that it loses its excitement. Preparing My Heart for Advent changes that. The Old Testament prophecies become amazing, the characters become real people, the carols and songs now speak with meaning, traditions have a purpose. The November study causes one to 'dig' and see what the Scriptures say and causes one to not just accept the attitude that this is what I've always thought or heard. The December devotionals cause reflection and inspiration. The whole Christmas experience comes together with this book to give depth and understanding. This book will not leave my library, but its recommendations will.
This book and course are wonderful for helping you to remember the true focus of Christmas. December seems to suck you into the commercialism of the holiday season. The special design of this book is set up so you are prepared with the true meaning and reason of Christmas prior to any other commitments of the season. It puts Christ first in Christmas.
Here is every woman's answer to the overwhelming holiday stress! This study's combination of helpful tips and relevant(and revealing) Scripture highlights the real meaning of the season. When you finish the month of study, you'll feel renewed and be refocused to concentrate on the heart of Christmas instead of its glitzy public packaging.
Finally there¿s a book out that helps us saturate our hearts in the real meaning of Christmas. After completing the November study and the December devotions in Preparing My Heart for Advent, you¿ll have a fresh appreciation of the meaning of Christmas. Then when someone asks, ¿Are you ready for Christmas?¿ you can reply with a resoundingy yes! Not because all your holiday plans and gifts are tied up in shiny ribbons, but because your heart is ready to welcome the newborn King. This is a book to reread each November and December. It would make a great gift for others, too. Let¿s get the buzz going about this wonderful resource that helps us prepare to celebrate a birth unlike any other.
I liked how this book combined scripture readings with everyday activities to make Christmas more Christ-centered for my family. There are lots of great ideas for simplifying the holidays and references about how many holiday songs and customs came about. I never realized until I read this book how many Old Testament references there are to the coming of Christ. Also, when I heard the Gospel readings for Christmas in church in December I had new insights and a better understanding of the Christmas story.
