Description: This book provides a very user friendly, clinical approach to treating and understanding skin disorders for the nondermatologist. Patient education tips are listed in a clear and concise manner and could be reproduced for patient hand outs. Color photographs of common skin problems are included.
Purpose: The purpose is to help nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals learn the principles of prescribing dermatological medications.
Audience: The audience is nurses, pharmacists, and other allied healthcare professionals.
Features: The patient education discussions are the strength of this book. The practical advice for patients and suggestions for how providers can explain various skin disorders are very good. The book references web sites for downloading patient handouts at the end of the chapters.
Assessment: This is a nice book for beginning paramedical personnel to have in the field of dermatology.

Meet the Author

Molly Courtenay is a qualified nurse with a background in Intensive Care and General Medicine. During recent years she has worked within nurse education and research and is currently a Reader at Reading University. Molly's main research interest is prescribing and medicines management and she has produced a number of publications in this area. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of www.nurse-prescriber.co.uk. Molly is currently on secondment to the Royal College of Nursing as their joint prescribing adviser.

Polly Buchanan qualified as a nurse and midwife in Scotland in the 1970s. She has been working in dermatology since 1986 in a variety of roles including lecturing at the University of Southampton and Bournemouth University, developing a dermatology nursing service for Salisbury NHS Trust and writing for many books and journals. Polly is currently employed by Galderma UK as a consultant nurse in dermatology with managerial and clinical responsibilty representing a model working partnership between the pharmaceutical industry and the NHS.
