Taking Presentation to the Next Level

Before I read Presentation Skills 201, I was one of those whom the author describes as "good presenters who are unlikely to become great presenters." Why? because, as he says, "They can't bring themselves to plan their messages, thinking, I'm best when I just go up there and start talking."
This clearly articulated and fascinating book has given me new insight into what I need to do to improve my presentations. There are pointers for every contingency I can imagine. As I know I will continue to refer to it as long as I am making public presentations, Presentation Skills 201 has become my Bible for planning and conducting book talks, workshops, and seminars. From now on my presentations will be planned, practiced, and perfected. Thanks to William (Bill) Steele.

    Well Worth Reading

More than a review of the basics, this book tells you WHY techniques do or do not work. Planning and practice of the WHOLE presentation are the key. We too often drop into old, comfortable habits that may/may not work anymore. Cliché skills are as rampant as cliché expressions. Both must go to improve effectiveness. Good enough isn't. We all need to assess our presentation skills, and Presentation Skills 201 does just that. What a thought provoking book!
I don't think I've ever seen a discussion before on how to deal with a hostile crowd. Unlike a nightclub comedian, you and your audience share a commonality that allows the presenter to handle almost any situation - if done properly. There is much to learn here.
