Presents Jesus Life for Childrens Under 12 Inches

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Jon Dolan
French abstract hip-hop wiz and master remixer Kid Loco spins through the international pop underground on this slight, but very satisfying, remix disc. Working a diverse collection of artists -- from the massive Pulp, to the midsize Talvin Singh to the minuscule Gak Sato -- Loco sends a passel of sonic options gliding along a surrealistic pillow of ambient groove. At times, as with oft-remixed high-pop legends the Pastels, we can hear the sound of indie rock gently floating into the next century. The band's "The Viaduct" loops through a lolling, futurist trip-hop plane that serves as a perfect companion to its fetchingly cooed lyric, "We need to stray/ And find a ...

The band's "The Viaduct" loops through a lolling, futurist trip-hop plane that serves as a perfect companion to its fetchingly cooed lyric, "We need to stray/ And find a gateway." Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it? Still, the formula can get a little samey, as on spacey cuts that rework Anglo-Hindi electronicats Talvin Singh and Badmarsh + Shri to such new age elegance that any musical muscle nearly disappears before your ears. Loco fares better with guitar bands that have a little meat on their bones. The best moment here is his remix of "Tracy," by those glowering Scotsmen, Mogwai, on which a droning indie-rock figure is drenched in sunrise synthetics until it rings with the millennial promise Loco's poptronica fusion strives for. At moments like these, that future sounds very bright indeed.
All Music Guide - Keith Farley
An excellent set compiling Kid Loco's outside productions for like minds Saint Etienne, Pulp, High Llamas and less so Pastels, Talvin Singh, Mogwai, Kat Onoma, the Jesus Life for Children Under 12 Inches remix album presents Loco-ized versions some justifiably excellent tracks, made even more solid by the producer's knack for balancing old and new influences, and retaining the spirit of the original even while he pulls out his production bag-of-tricks. [The American version trades the Saint Etienne and High Llamas remixes for ones by Gak Sato and Badmarsh & Shri.]
