All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
This sampler has 15 selections taken from the 1918-1926 period, mixing together some obscurities with well-known jazz performances. The least-known performances are "Bluin' the Blues" by Lopez & Hamilton's Kings of Harmony Orchestra, the Original New Orleans Jazz Band's "Ja-Da," and Wilbur Sweatman's "The Darktown Strutters' Ball," while Louis Armstrong & His Hot Five's "Muskrat Ramble" and the Original Dixieland Jazz Band's "Tiger...

Also represented are King Oliver, Lovie Austin, Clarence Williams, Ida Cox, and Jelly Roll Morton. With a little better planning (and a much better listing of basic information), this set would be much more valuable.
