Who was the first president born a united states citizen?

Martin Van Buren (1837–1841), our eighth president, entered the earthly stage on December 5, 1782, making him the first president born after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Eight presidents were born before 1776 as British subjects—George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams,
Andrew Jackson, and, after Van Buren, William Henry Harrison. To put it another way, eight of our first nine presidents were not born in the United States; they were born in the American Colonies.

    Lederer at his best

Richard Lederer came to San Diego a few years ago and seemingly adopted all the writers and would-be writers in the area. We, and the entire literate world owe him big time for his support in our quest to write with a zing.
