Overview

Ah, retail. It has lured in the best of us with promises of employee discounts (a sham), the "fun" of working with people (not so much), and flexible hours (dont make me laugh).

What we got instead: cranky customers, sadistic managers, idiotic coworkers, and, oh yeah, the hell that is doing inventory.

But there are ways to lessen the pain, and this retail handbook will show you how. Inside youll learn how to handle the crazies (both customers and coworkers), feign product knowledge, and make the best of working the register, all the while, of course, pretending you care. This book takes years of retail experience and condenses it into a guide that is as funny as it is useful.

If you work in retail now, have done so in the past, or plan to do so in the future: this is the book for you.

Funny read about the life of retail.

I decided to sit in B&N and skim this book and found it comical. The author is also the artist of a comic strip which he includes in the book. It is funny, interesting to read and a good look at things that can happen.
The author gives you advice from the application to becoming a manager and I found it helpful.

The funniest book I have read in a long time!!

If you work in retail, are going to work in retail or have worked in retail you need to read this book. The author is dead on in his descriptions of what it is like to work in the industry. It covers topics like Customers, Corporate, the 120 days of Christmas and a lot more. I started to read it and then took it to work for all my co-workers to read as well. Now five stores in my company and my district manager own this book!!

    This book is a gift!

This book is a gift for all the brave souls who work in retail! Anyone with any retail experience with laugh out loud with recognition at the scenarios Norman Feuti describes. I do like working in retail but this book captures the downsides in a hilarious way. It also allowed me to discover Feuti's comic strip 'Retail' which I think of as 'Dilbert' for retail employees.

Pretending You Care: The Retail Employee Handbook

Norm Feuti knows whereof he speaks this book explains in lurid and comical detail all the idiocy retail employees have to go through. While the book will horrify anyone contemplating a career in retail, it will also make the reader laugh him-/herself silly. For those already in retail, this book will reassure them that they are NOT crazy, and also that they are certainly not alone in having to endure insufferable customers, annoying co-workers, moronic managers, and completely-out-of-touch Corporate Suits who actually think they know what they are doing when they idiotically micromanage to the Nth degree. Read it and laugh!

Pretending You Care: The Retail Employee Handbook

Having worked in Retail for the past few years, I can say that the author nails the industry right on the head. Whether it's his descriptions of customers, situations, types of co-workers, managers, corporate decrees, corporate bigwigs, etc., he is telling you exactly the way things are - sad to say. While what we in retail have to go through is frustrating, it is also comical, as you will find when you read this book - and you should! If you're in retail, you HAVE to read it to help youget through your day, and so you know that you're not alone when it comes to what you have to go through every day...if you are a customer, PLEASE read it so as to avoid being one of the many Jerks retail employees must put up with on a daily basis. Frankly, I'm surprised we don't hear about Retail Employees going 'Postal' and when you read this fine book, you'll wonder why as well. And NO, my store does NOT have a public toilet...didn't your paarents ever teach you to 'go' before leaving the house?

For anyone who has ever worked retail, and especially those who have not.

This Norm Feuti guy is my new hero. Read it and laugh, or read it and recognize yourself and quit being a jerk. Welcome to my nightmare. I heart this book.
